Dear SpyderGurus:
I know how a dual action works...but how the heck does a scale release work? Are there diagrams anywhere? There was a really vague description by someone on the spyderco forums archive but I can't seem to find it.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I hope I'm not the only one wants to know

I also want to know everything about this knife like you wouldn't believe (That isn't already on the internet). The release of some of the new spyderco's to NGK has got me crazed for the Samaritan.

Err... from what I've gathered, a scale release means you move the scales in opposite directions, and it opens. Not sure which way though, and I might be completely wrong.

like one towards the blade and one towards the butt?

If so: ALRIGHT!!!! :D

That sounds like an awesomely fun toy :)

I had a scale release knife years ago if this is the same method, you rotate an outer scale slightly forward (away from the spine) and this unlocks the blade.

With some practice it greatly increases the speed at which a knife can be deployed.

Like I said That was a different knife from a different maker dont know if this is gonna be the same.

I also had a scale release some years ago, it was great. Used to carry it in my pocket and deploy it over and over again on walks to the point where the spring gave out, but that was after years of nightly abuse to a no-name blade.

I've handled a scale release auto knife that worked the same as a meerkat (except in this case the function was to open the auto blade, while in the meerkat the function was to unlock the knife.

I'm not entirely sure if it is the mechanism we are taling about here, but i think i can direct you to a video. Just go here, watch and learn.

The Samaritan works by pushing the button and moving the scale slightly to the back of the knife. I handled it in Amsterdam and can tell you that it workt realy well. it is a fun knife.
