Stupidest question ever (knife uses)!

There is a saying that "There's no such thing as a stupid question." Anyone that reads this may no longer believe that!

I love my collection. I have some that I prefer to keep "new." I have some that I rotate as EDC's. I have some that are cheapos that I began my collection with.

Now that I reached the point that I have a fair size collection and won't be spending every minute of every day researching which knife I should buy next, I've started craving other uses for my EDC's beyond opening boxes, defending myself when mugged or attacked by zombies, sharpening them when necessary, and drooling on them every time I walk by the area I store/display them.

Can anyone suggest other uses?

Do any of you use them for wood-carving (rather than using dedicated woodworking carving knives)? If so, what type of wood do you use for carving? Is whittling just sharpening twigs and branches (rather than actual wood carving)?

Any other ideas (I don't hunt or live near a jungle, so I have no trees or bushes to hack on)?

I anticipate several smart-@ss and humorous replies, but I hope to get AT LEAST A FEW new ideas!

Thank you!

I take my Busse out into the woods and hack stuff up. Great stress relief, and for some people, can be considered exercise.

Part of the reason I have a knife "collection" is because I keep thinking up fun ways to use them. I then find a knife that fits the use. That being said, ALL of my knives are users, most unfit for resale because of the "personality" scratched and scuffed into their exteriors over the years.

A knife without a use might as well be a painting on the wall. A knife that's been beaten like a rented Chrysler has stories, and subsequently, so do you.

Maybe not building a cabin, but try using them for bushcraft, go build traps, notch some branches for camp cooking, make some spears to chuck around or fishing, use some for around the house or ranch (wishful thinking here) and use some in the kitchen at home or camp. The carving sounded good too.

So you want us to tell you what to cut with your knives

Aside from the mundane cutting tasks at work & home - go into the woods. There is plenty of fun stuff, or go fishing.

In many years of working and living outdoors I've rarely ever discovered anything in the outdoors that needed cutting. So most of my knives are just for lookin' at. ;)

How about these hobbies:

Hunting and fishing.
Whittling / woodcarving.
Cooking.
Model building.
Knife collecting. :D

Check out bushcrafting. All sorts of stuff you can do with a knife.

I agree, bushcraft is fun. Check out the WSS area.

Learn as much as you can about knives in general. I had a subscription to Blade, Tactical Knives and read a few issues of Knives Illustrated. I've learned a lot more from knife articles in Backwoodsman, and the be all end all knife magazine/newspaper, Knife World. Check out your local flea market etc for any used knife books. I've found knife books all over the place.

My knife hobby got me into cooking...somewhat:

One day in college:
Hey, I wonder how sharp of an edge I can get on this cheap chef's knife.
Few moments later:
It feels sharp, I wonder how well it cuts food.
Ten minutes later:
Well, shoot. Now I have all these chopped up meat and veggies, what do I do?
Two online recipes later:
Huh, this isn't horrible.

So, if you get into cooking, it has other life benefits.

Otherwise, try making your own scales or something. Do more with your hands and less with your wallet.

You have a bunch of knives and you dont know what to do with them? Why do you have them? What were you thinking when you bought them?

Seems like the neighbor kids stay glued to the computers these days. My mom used to turn off the tv and kick us outside when I was a kid. Bit then again that was back when it wasn't considered neglect to not be watching your kids every minute

Don't worry too much about responses like that. Older people always say stuff like that. Someone older than he probably said it when he was a kid and you'll probably say something similar about kids when your his age. Different generation but the same "Those darn kids!" ;)
Yeah, I understand. It just gets annoying when all you hear people say is my generation doesn't do anything. It's like people don't realize that there are kids my age that actually do stuff besides stay inside and play video games all day.

This is always a good way to kill time:
