Stupidity Can Be Expensive/Update!

Hey Red, pm me your adress, I have a large recon1 I will send you to get your new box started...
Not a looker, it's been used for a while, sharpened by me. I made a sharpening choil on it and strippeduthat big clip-point blade.
But there is still lots of good knife left,lol...
Send the adress and I'll have it in the mail in a couple of days...
I know how it sucks losing knives....

I appreciate that my friend but I don't want to take any of your knives away from you, especially ones you use/have used/modded to your liking! The kind offer is more than enough! You're a good mate.

No problem sending it to you Red, it fell out of my rotation when I bought my benchmade 915 so I really don't use it much anyway...

Had most of my stuff in a storage closet in the kitchen (which is the room you enter when coming in) and have since moved it to a bedroom closet instead.

Unlikely to happen again but it's the only reason I can think of for anyone grabbing it (close to the exit door) despite it being out of sight. Ah well.

I don't have awhole lot to steal but whatever stuff of value i do have i hide before i leave anywhere cause i just can't afford to lose it. And am extremely paranoid if you couldn't tell.;) Really hope the cops or you can find out who the theives were man. Can't imagine the frustration. If you live in a small town would ask neighbors or just other people around town and see what they say. Being paranoid is a good thing sometimes. Hide my stuff so if break in does happen my knives and guns are out of sight out of mind. My 48" flat screen would be gone though but would rather lose that than my knives.:o They'd probably break it on the way out cause it's so flimsy and thin.:D Sorry about everything, hope you get your knives back or least find out who they are to press charges. I could part with a Kershaw RJ1 if you'd want it. Did you say that you had some of your knives locked up though?

Hi Ulf,

Yep, in fact most of my knives are locked up and--at least in my opinion--the box is way too heavy for anyone to want to bother with it. It isn't a safe or anything, but it's a sturdy box with a good German padlock. I'm pretty fit in the upper body and although I can lift and carry it, only for short periods. I've made it as undesirable to take as possible, since I can't afford a safe (and it would likely be more expensive than most of my knives put together, I love my knives but they are not valuable for the most part ;)

Sorry to hear about that! Very unfortunate...I'd feel the same away about knives vs. something like your late grandfather's (RIP) hat though. Hopefully you'll be on your way to picking up some replacements soon! Good thing all your safe kept knives were spared.

Thanks! It's a shame but a relatively painless lesson learned, when all is said and done.

Waltzed in and only took a box of your knives and nothing else? Sounds like someone knew what they were looking for.

Last year we had $100k of stuff stolen from the back of our SUV on the way to a three-day religious function. My suits, all my wife's clothes and jewelry (including our wedding ring), a bunch of the kids clothes, my laptop and other assorted electronics, my CPAP machine... All because we decided to run to dinner before unloading at the hotel. I hate to call it a miracle, but just about the time we were going to pack up what little we had left and go home and not go to the function that weekend, the police called and had found 100% of our stuff. It was a totally bizarre coincidence too, they had been pulling the guy over for an expired license plate when he decided to flee. They had all our stuff in police custody before we even knew it was gone, but didn't find us until the next day. Thankfully I put my business card on all our stuff so they could easily figure out it wasn't the perps stuff.

I had something similiar happen a few years back. My car got broken into while parked at my then girlfriend's apartment. The thieves got my class notes, emergency supplies, and a bunch of paperwork intended for the safe deposit box. 'Friends' of the thieves got caught the next day breaking into cars at a high end mall. I got the paperwork back, which was the important thing, but nothing else

Awesome update! I bet it was a major relief to have the box o' knives back.

Sounds like it could be pretty interesting living in your apt. complex. I've volunteered with folks of "different abilities" and it can be a challenge, but rewarding, non-the-less.

Maybe it's a chance to make a new friend.

UPDATE/EDIT: Well one of the caretakers of one of the other residents of my complex (as I think I mentioned several residents here have some mental issues and need daily caretakers for help) found my box o' knives in someone else's place and knew it wasn't theirs, after some door-knocking they managed to return it to me. :)

All's well that ends well, although now I feel bad I thought poorly of the thief, as I doubt there was any ill intention on the part of this resident, just happened to wander in whilst I was away. It happens sometimes when I am home preparing dinner or something, they'll wander into the wrong apartment. Anyway just wanted to share the good news, thanks guys.

Good that it turned out well for you. Lucky too...

Hi Daniel,

Yep, it's a very interesting place and the folk here are good. Earlier in the week I got two of those plastic eggs with some Starburst in them from someone, not sure who, but that happens sometimes. ;)

There's a few neighbors that enjoy telling me about their pets or recent events, etc. Everyone is friendly and well-meaning. I don't have a ton of contact with them but when I do it's always interesting. I do have to answer the same questions over and over from a few residents who tend to forget they asked me already, but that's okay. ;)
