Sturdy folding knife under 3 inches?

One other to consider if you son is pretty traditional... the BF Traditional Forum 2012 knife is a two blade Trapper made by GEC. There may be a few left ($122 including shipping). I like the Wharncliffe blade design for a second blade, but some don't care for it. Love this knife!

??? Mmm, need some direction on this.

Some thoughts...

Spyderco Delica - the saber ground and FFG ones in VG10 steel can be had for around $50. Or you can go up to the ZDP-189 blade for about $85.

Kershaw Leek - standard version with Sandvik steel can currently be had for under $30. The composite version has a CPM-D2 cutting edge and is around $50. There is also the S30V version w/ G10 scales (and liner lock instead of frame lock) that can be picked up for around $70.

Benchmade Mini-Griptilian - standard version can be had for about $70. Ritter version (wider, stouter blade and S30V steel) is about $120. Or, you can build a custom Griptilian on Benchmade's web site for $115. You can pick your own handle colors (different color for each side if you want), blade shape, blade steel, lock/liner colors, clip, and even engraving & image printing on the blade.

Spyderco Sage series - prices vary by model. Each model features contributions to the knife world by various designers. Check out the Spyderco page for details on the various models. The Sage 1 (carbon fiber scales, liner lock) and 3 (G10 scales, piston lock) are the only ones that fit in your stated price range though. Those run around $100.

Buck Vantage Pro (small) - very solid-feeling little knife. S30V steel, Bos heat treat, contoured G10 scales, deep-carry clip. Runs around $50.

Mega thanks!!!

I'm going to echo what others have suggested with the Spyderco Sages, Delica, Native 5, Dragonfly (G10 version *feels* even more solid, though I trust the FRN versions), and Benchmade Griptilians.

The Emerson Micro Commander was mentioned and I do love mine, but I wish the hole was a bit bigger. Also, in my opinion Emersons tend to be pocket shredders due to how grippy their G10 is... but that's a give and take issue for function :)

Benchmade Sibert MPR was also suggested-- that thing is stout!! I had one for a few days... pretty nice but I HATED the pocket clip so I returned it.

Good Luck aznav!

[EDIT] Also beware, keeping the 3" limit in mind, some will measure the entire blade length, not just the cutting edge...

I would suggest the BenchMade 755 MPR Siebert design. It's made with M390 blade-steel, one of the best, and is an absolute tank. Your kid won't/can't hurt it without a sledgehammer.

Yes, you MUST sand down the G10 under the clip, or it will rip your Levis right off your body.

For around 20$-30$ you could get the Byrd meadowlark 2 (20$ for FRN 30$ for stainless steel also comes in G-10) but, I know little about knives. P.S. these are made in china
