Yeah, I've got about 3" or so of 1/2"-ish stock to draw out into a tang. It'll be tapered both in length and width, so it should end up being long enough.
Plus this is just a prototype for the real deal. Mostly to work out what kinds of tooling I'll need to make it better. So far, I need a couple of good sized spring swedges. What I really need to do is get/make a guillotine... That would really make things easier.

And, you can always weld on a tang extension.

I think I'm done forging. Now for the grinding work. I have a feeling this is gonna take a while... Never ground anything this big before.
