Sub 3" blade assisted folder not made in China

Not huge on the Tanto but that's the closest I've seen to what I'm looking for!

I have to apologize. The Zing is NOT assisted, I was confusing it with a few other Kershaw Assist open knives. It was late, and I was giving you poor information. My apologies. The flipper on the Zing works great, but it is NOT assisted. Sorry about that, brother.

Other ones I've seen which would fit the bill are the SOG Flash, SOG Twitch, and Gerber Mini Fast Draw, but again all are made in China.

How about a SOG Flash or a SOG Twitch? Both seem to fit the bill and neither is made in China! The blades are Taiwanese AUS8 and they are assembled right here in the USA! By Americans!

A major misconception is that SOG's stuff is made in China. While some of their products have issues, very little of their stuff is made in China. A little research goes a long way when weighing options on a product.

Hey, it just hit me. What about the Zing! Kershawguy has a limited edition Zing on his site right now. It's made here, and is a very quality little piece. It's an assisted open little knife, and has a tanto blade which may or may not be for you. I believe it should fit your specs.
The black tanto Zing is not assisted, only the SS version.

Edit: I see you checked yourself, lol.

If you can find one, the Kershaw 1615 Centofante, it's about 5 1/2" overall with a 2" blade. If you don't care for the Leek, you may not care for this one either.

The Kershaw Camber, which is due out soon, sounds like the perfect knife for your girlfriend.. ;)

You may also want to look into the CRKT Eros - it is not assisted, but with the flipper/detent setup, it opens faster than any of the four Kershaw Leeks I've owned. With nicely milled titanium handles, frame lock, and a sleek blade, it's a very nice knife overall that may fit your needs.

Everyone saying BM 470s, he said assisted opening.. Those are not.

What about a Sog twitch II?

The BM 470-1 is assisted, it's also a 3" blade. OP requested sub-3", not sure how far sub 3" qualifies (2.99999"?). The SOG twitch II is a great knife. I have two. There is even a rosewood handled one now.

The BM 585 is a good knife, but the handle is over a half inch thick, that's why I sold mine. Just something to think about before buying if you aren't able to handle one.

What about a Brous Bionic? Once broken in it flips like a dream and it is very compact. I can fit mine in the pocket watch pocket of my jeans. 3" blade and 4" handle.

I like the SOG Twitch II, and Twitch XL (which is >3" blade). The XL is a little slower (or mine is) than the Twitch II, but still fast enough for me. If you want smaller yet, the Blink is small and fast.

I don't recommend the Flash series. I've had a couple and each one had blade play. I wasn't impressed. Maybe the current ones are better?

I like the the Twitch II and have researched SOG quite a bit. If they are saying "Assembled in the USA", but not "Made in USA" that leads me to believe that the actual components of the knife are made overseas. I mean assembling the Chinese/Taiwan made parts in the USA is better than nothing but it's still not an American made knife IMO.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I've been drawing a blank and it's been very helpful! I think right now the closest is the Benchmade 470-1 as it has a 3" blade with slim 3.9" handles, assisted and is Made in USA. Dealer has one locally going to go look at it.

Close second is the Twitch II, perfect size, assisted, and even though it's made overseas the final assembly is done here in the USA so that might give it a pass.

The Kershaw Camber as suggested also looks really nice but might just be on the edge of too big, would have to let her pocket test it but it's not even out yet. I might get that knife for myself though anyway :)

Not assisted (but super fast deployment), and also not made in China - the SOG Mini Vulcan, made in Seki, Japan. I bought for my wife and she absolutely LOVES it. She's pretty small/petite (under 5'), and says the Mini Vulcan fits her hands very well.

I cast my vote for the SOG Topo Meridian. I bought it when I was shopping for a knife with the same requirements that you are except I needed a knife with a certain blade style. I bought it when I was on active duty and I was putting knives thru some serious quality tests, so I can vouch for its durability.
