I'm looking for another/new edc blade. I'm loving my Skyline, but looking for something under 3".
I have my eye on the Blade-Tech Ganayana Lite (tip hat to Nutn), also the CRKT Drifter looks like a winner. and, unfortunately, i am on a budget, sorry Spyderco Chicago...

Suggestions, anyone?

i have a SOG twitch 2 i got for about 38 bucks, the blade is small but very very capable, i enjoy it quite a bit, however there are so many good knives out there, if you buy one thats quality and appeals to you, its hard to go wrong.

hey man

I have a Ganyana lite and i really like it. you might also consider a spydie Salt 1 or percistance i think its in the 40ish range with a roughly 3 inch blade, not a scary pointy knife. are you in chichago? the flash 1 and twitch mentioned by trigcure would also be a good one. also check out the boker trance or some of Chad Los Banos' other designs. I have a bunch of these knives. although while i was in chicago i carried a spydie tenacious or an emerson mini-commander and it was my thought that as long as your not making an ass of yourself and are not flashing it you wont be harassed by the fuzz.

thanks Jnich, Bigbre and Trigcure...all good suggestions..
BigBre, i'm leaning toward the Ganyana because of the blade shape. it seems super useful. i might get the green one...the orange doesn't look as hot as some of the other manufacturer's oranges out there, but who knows. but i love the jimping on the upper spine. and i love the Trance also, maybe i'll re-consider that.
i need more pockets...

Knifedraw...i love the NRG, but i have the skyline currently and i do Not love the flipper. isn't the flipper the only opening device on the NRG? is that flipper any differently than the flipper on the Skyline?

You can even go as small as a Spyderco Ladybug 3, which will easily fit in the small pocket of a pair of jeans or ride on a key ring, but will handle just about any EDC chore.

spyderco dragonfly. get one, you will love it.

I love my dragonfly. I use it for lots of random tasks like opening/breaking down boxes, letters, bags of fruit, bags of pet food, cut to fit aquarium filter media and it slices right through all that stuff and it's still shaving sharp. it's so light you forget it's there. just one of the best 30 bucks i've ever spent.

Out of morbid curiosity , how can you not love the flipper ? That is the best thing about the Skyline , it flips so smooth and easy it's like an AO , a marvel of engineering I think.
I'm trying to bend my mind around how so many folks do not like flippers , so much easier to open than the thumbstud.

I was going to mention the Scallion but it is also a flipper.

Spyderco Cricket, Dragonfly or Meerkat. Personally, I love the Meerkat because of its versatility that the Cricket doesn't have due to its blade shape, and because it has a comfier handle than the Dragonfly. Can't forget that excellent Phantom lock too. Pick one up if you can.

Dude, man, if you arent' like a totally "I hate SOG now" dude, you could, like, totally get a Flash 1, dude. AO is, like, totally righteous, and it's got, like, a full flat-cha-ma-callit grind.

The NRG (ener-g) flipper is not the same design as the Skyline. The NRG flipper is not connected to the blade, but is more similar to a self moving triangular-type cam design with jimping cut into the top. Where the Skyline flipper is actually part of the blade tang. Do a search on YouTube for the ener-g, you might be quite surprised how fast the opening can be. But the Skyline is smooth as butter and fast once it is broken-in. Both excellent EDCs.
