Sub-$300 Tablet??

Get a playbook. It is the second best tablet available. Just remember, it is your requirements that will result in your disappointment.

Pretty good advice. That said...

I work on the consumer review end of the industry, and I've used pretty much every tablet out there. I'm first and foremost an Appleite, but since that's off the list I would say WAIT UNTIL Q2. Amazon is prepping a 10" Kindle Fire, and it will likely come in at $350.

If you HAVE to get one now, I'd opt for the Nook Tablet over the 7" Fire (especially if you're handy at rooting), as it's basically the most versatile budget tablet around. You can get a BlackBerry PlayBook for pretty cheap right now, but it doesn't have much of a future as far as support goes (minus the forthcoming 2.0 build). As far as Asus and Samsung stuff, their tablets are a dime a dozen and are crippled by outdated Android builds and a lack of defined update schedules.

So, right now, the Nook Tablet. If cameras are a must, the PlayBook. But the smart thing to do would be to wait about 3 months if you can.

And if you can find an HP TouchPad for under 200, maybe try that, although I have one and I gave it away. webOS is NOT what it used to be (or, at least, not what we used to THINK it would be).
