Had off this weekend..but the mrs. is a little ill so I couldn't get up to the woods. but I managed to get some good practice in... I took the little one to a wooded park and played around a bit (it's so new to him but he loves it) while we were there I gathered an armload of dead fall sticks and took em home, Also stopped by the craft store and bought a few scraps of leather...I roughed out a wooden spoon out of a nice piece of oak (now jus the bowl remains to be carved) I went on to make a sling shot out of a forked branch and a bike innertube..(not that powerful but fun..maybe I'll get a stronger band) made a couple of figure 4's and a primitive looking neck sheath for my mora...I have to say after alot of trimming of hard wood the mora held up nicely it was still very sharp at the end of the day (not shaving) but 2-3 passes per side on a 600 grit plate and it was back to norelco level...In another couple of months my son will be oldenough to really start getting an idea of what;s going on...taking him out anywhere natural even if it's not the real woods is always so refreshing we spent about an hour banging sticks on a rock....I couldn't think of better company..well Thanks for listening, and sorry for rambling.

HEY RR
Hope your wife is feeling better.its good that you can get out with your son and spend some time in the woods. if you dont mind saying what part of the city are you in. I was born in Flushing and spent a lot of time playing on the horse trails and woods in Kisena park later on we moved to Jamaica and hiked and practiced our woods craft in Alley pond park. My brother and I cooked countless hot dogs over our camp fire hoping no one called the cops on us while we had the fire going LOL The good old days

THanks for the kind words guys... The Mrs. has been out of commission for the better part of a week...High fever night sweats the works....Irony is I got face full of vomit from a junkie at work and my wife gets the flu...go figure... She's on the mend THanks for the wishes...I'm taking the little guy out camping for his first time this june he'll be 2 than...THat's old enough for a sak right??? JK...Mike we're sort of neighbors removed...I'm in Forest Hills...I know kissena and Alley pond very well..both great spots but today I was in forest park...Rupestris thanks for the heads up on the surgical tubing...

It's the rambles that give us all a better idea of what what the rambler is like. ;) To me, you sound like great dad eager to teach all the acquired knowledge you've gotten over the years. Your little ones lucky.
I wish my dad was more of an outdoor type, I got most of my inspiration from my grandpa.

Definitely hope the Mrs gets better RR. My wife has the same thing from her job at the hospital. It definitely does not look fun LOL. I'm trying to keep her in quarantine, away from me and the little guy, until she feels better.
We are planning our first camping trip in May and my son will be 2 1/2. I can't wait until then.
