This hunt was planned for over a year. Since my son was under 18 at the time of applying for tags, it was less expensive for him to go along. We planned and refined and adjusted the packs and knife list for months. I will let the pics show the rest... enjoy!

Packing... excitement is off the charts!

Scouting was a 3 day adventure prior to season open. Walked approx. 8 - 12 miles a day from 7000 - 10,500 elevation.

Its blurry because of lighting and phone... But this bull was a good one. Probably 50 inches at least.

Shot's over the ridge! Did he get one? My answer.... I saw several minutes later. Bull down! And what a bull. Sun is just coming up, working it's way down the mountain side. It is so beautiful out there. Words do not describe. What an experience for a young man. His first elk ever. The bull was headed up to the timber to get out of the sun. It was still unseasonable warm.

Then the work to cut it up and try to pack it out of the burn to the trail. That was brutal. No pics of cut up due to inexperience and bloody hands...

The tenderloins for supper!

End of a long day of packing... Time to meditate on all our blessings. We live in a great land, and are very fortunate to be bale to experience nature this way.

The goal and reason for all this... Success in the field. And he said it would have been a success if no animal was taken. Just the experience and the sights and the knowledge gained would be a success all by itself...

If you are going, take a Becker... shoot... take at least 2. I wish we had a 16, and a 12 at least along with the 15. Next time I know to bring more!

Good luck and be careful.

Awesome thread man. Congrats to your son.

This horse is probably thinking that it's glad it don't have antlers. ;)
