Such a thing as a Combat/Busch craft knife?

You also mentioned the BK5. Have you checked out the BK15? It's pretty much the 5's baby brother. You can get the micarta handles for that for around $30ish I think, which will bring you to your budget of $100. For maybe $30 more you could probably get a kydex sheath from eBay or somewhere else, or you could just stick with the nylon.

...boy that knife is perrty :love-struck:, I want one myself just by looking at it.

How bout a Becker bk7? I can chop down 2-4 sapling, and spring into action in case a wild pig charges.........

To solve the slickness on the backers, I put a pice of inner tube in there... Work great, works better when wet.. The big rounded butt keeps the rubber right were I need it...

I say this! I put some grip tape on my handles, but I may go for the micarta ones, or possible make something myself for them! I love my BK7

ESEE-6 is the answer you're looking for. Seriously, most any fixed blade bushcraft knife can be considered a "combat" knife. A fighting knife doesn't necessarily need handguards.

Blade length: 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 (if it is slightly over I'll still look into it just not above 7inch.)
Thickness: nothing to specific. Just one that is thick enough to withstand bushcraft.
Blade style: all straight edge (plain edge for some of you)
Grind: flat grind but I'm open. I'll decide upon that after hunting. Beggars can't be choosers.
Handle: I'd like something quite grippy. The BK series has slick handles which won't work for me sadly.
Steel: once again I won't be too picky. I'll look into it as I hunt.
Sheath: I'd prefer kydex or that secure ex material (I'm pretty sure they're the same). If the knife doesn't have such a sheath, then could anyone give me any idea on where I could get such a sheath made for a knife.
Price range: top is $100 I can always go slightly higher.

The ESEE-LS fits this. It also comes with the best factory kydex sheath I've ever seen. The knife is at home building fires or figure fours, but is also smooth and fast doing Kali knife drills.

The ESEE-6 is great, very well balanced, but the sheath is injection molded plastic.

You can get a Meyerco CQB1 for $100 right now (normally they cost $200-300), they're on clearance at a major distributor. More of a fighter than a woods knife, but I've used mine to process wood for a fire, and carve tools, and it works great.. The CQB1 was issued to some soldiers, and made from 154CM stainless steel with a full tang and micarta handles, is a dramatic improvement over the KABAR.

I'm going to jump in this foray. That also perfectly describes the Cold Steel SRK. I can attest to the fact that they are fantastic knives. I've packed one in my truck for 15 years. Always handled whatever I asked of it. Mine is older, in Carbon V. It is practically a blue print of what you described.

Some good suggestions here already - the Buck Nighthawk 650, ESEE-5, Becker BK-15, Cold Steel SRK are all solid options. I'd also throw into the ring the Scrap Yard 511 as it ticks pretty much every box you list with the exception of the sheath.

Carry a multi-bladed slipjoint for all your carving needs then add whatever tank of a knife you want. I'd go with a machete or an axe though. They'll be more effective at everything including getting a fire going, shelter building, and self defense and won't be seen as a weapon. They'll be recognized for the tools that they are. Not as sexy as a "combat knife" but vastly superior for most everything you'll use it for.

The LS would be my top choice for a survival knife. It is a great size, has a very strong blade, good enough length to harvest wood effectively, etc. It would be a brutal blade to swing in combat, but I really don't like the grip for stabbing. I think it needs more up front to stop the hand if it's used for that.

Of course, I really don't see stabbing as a need, so the LS is a huge winner in my book.
