Hey guys,

I have been having this problem lately, I tried to search on the internet, but I cant really find the right words...:o

Anyways this pain happens on the left side of my neck, almost like a long tendant or a muscle kinda thing. happens randomly, or so it looks like. It lasts for about half a second, but it hurts very bad, and I my whole body jerks, or twitiches. (hard to explain). Yesterday when it happened, it lasted like a second, but all I could see was whiteness.

I cant really explain the pain, it is just so sudden, and happens like 2 times a day... it comes, then its gone, just as quick.

anyone got any sites or know why this happens? Is it because I need vitamins? My muscles got messed up?:grumpy: anyone else have this problem?

I will tell my family doctor this next time I go.

Not a joke, thanks guys

mike

You definitely need to see a doctor just as quick as you can. Until then, I would suggest you modify your internet searches for nerve issues. It sounds like you're getting some electrical shocks from nerves not working quite right.

Might be a pinched nerve, but......I'm going to second the suggestion to see your doctor without delay.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I did a little bid of research on pinched nerves.

The sites just say it hurts, and its stiff, but it didnt mention anything about quick sudden pains.

shadowblades, I do play a lot of basketball and taekwondo. But never has happened like this.

Ill definately have it checked out tonight.

You cant die from this now can you?

We're not MEDICAL doctors, young fellow. But it is pretty obvious you should get to one RIGHT NOW.

If you got one of these events while driving ... :(

Are you actually losing vision when this happens? You say "all I saw was white" but what does that mean? If you are losing vision, having blurred or double vision, seeing things, hearing things, noticing things like drooping eyelids or anything that seems weird like that, then bypass the chiropractor and go to straight to the ER.

If you aren't having additional symptoms like those, it sounds a lot like a minor torticolis issue. True torticolis is a spasm of the upper trap and SCM muscles that will pull your ear right down to your shoulder and lock it there. I don't see too much of that in adults, but I do see tons of patients where there is irritation of the nerves controlling those muscles and the muscles are tight (but not spasming). People often refer to these flashes of pain as "stingers". Responds very well to a little chiropractic care. If it doesn't, you either have a more significant problem that hasn't been diagnosed or you have a terrible chiropractor, but honestly, if this is what it sounds like a handful of adjustments and you'll be better than new. I would also suggest with the type of sports you like to do that you put yourself on a regular schedule of chiropractic care (maybe even just once a month) to keep your body working right and to allow yourself to enjoy your activities more.

Just want to make it clear that I am a licensed, practicing doctor of chiropractic. I am not attempting to diagnose or treat any medical condition or interfere with the treatment of a health condition in any way. I am merely offering information that may be helpful to you. This information is not intended to replace the examination, treatment and management of your own medical doctor or chiropractor.

I get a sharp pain in the left side of my neck every once and a while, it feels kinda like what you would expect a clogged artery to feel like, but not as painful. It might be a growing pain too.

FYI, there is no such thing as "growing pains." Growing is a normal process and it does not hurt.

Hey thanks for that doctor! If you mean like your shoulder kinda comes up and your head sorta moves to the left side also then it sounds like it!

Im not an adult, 15. Hopefully is not pinched nerve, as it sounds kinda...scary

I dont know if if the blured vision is directly linked to the pain, as I said, the flash only happened that once.

Ill hopefully have it checked out tonight, if the pharmcy is open (with all this stupid snow).

It is a new 'experience' for me, and I thought it was my arteries popping or something. lol.

BF is sooo helpful sometimes

+1 on Chiropractic. I've been going to chiropractors since I was 17. Look for a reputable one.

See a chiropractor. Neck injuries often happen up to several days before you actually feel any pain (not just a lawyers' trick to make money off whiplash suits), so there's a good chance you won't even know what the heck caused it. A pain in the neck (to coin a phrase) can often lead to spinal pain lower down (and vice versa) because your body naturally tries to compensate without you realizing you're even doing it. And often, if the pain "goes away", the injury is still there, you're just used to it, and that can cause more problems down the road.

So see a chiropractor, and soon.

Good remedial massage therapist can probably do a lot for you, if not it will really give the chiro an easy time as all the hard work would have been done.

I do loads of neck/shoulder pain its a relatively easy fix and most clients don't have to come back for a second visit.

I am going to have to agree with this. A doctor's visit won't hurt but you may also try a massage with a doctor's visit.
Doc
Ps. check out the mayoclinic online- I find I like them better than webmd.

I have arthritis in my neck, I get sharp pains periodically when I turn my head, and crunching sounds, but no problems with vision. I would go to the ER and get checked out ASP if you are losing vision.

I would go see a doctor; I could speculate on what it probably is but until I get the MD behind my name in two more years I prefer to bow to the more experienced doctors. My guess is it's probably nothing major, but if you really are losing vision then I would definitely get it checked out.

Of course, if you lost your vision because you shut your eyes when the pain hit, that's not so bad.

You'll get used to pain. Eventually you'll realize pain is good. It means you're not dead yet.
