Gentlemen:

My 1 1/2 year old Sugar Creek KK-2 element went out two weeks ago....the oven still has 6 months left on the warranty. After trying unsuccessfully to get in contact with these folks I called USA Knifemakers Supply and found out Sugar Creek went out of business. Fortunately, Tracy and his staff has been working with Evenheat to manufacture a replacement element. l received one of the first ones drop shipped to me from Evenheat. It was a perfect fit - even better than the Sugar Creek replacement element - I'm up and running!

My compliments to Tracy and his staff (especially Beth who expedited the shipment) for developing an element and getting my oven operational in a timely fashion. Tracy: I think Beth deserves a raise!!:thumbup:

Oh noooo! I am sad to hear about Sugar Creek :(

Tracy and Beth are awesome though. This is really cool that they did that.

Very nice. Thank god Tracy stepped up since they shut down. I bought a sugarcreek new about 8 months ago. I sold it because they went out of business. I just got an Evenheat kf18 with a rampmaster ll control.

I caught wind that Sugar Creek was going out of business and ordered 3 spare elements during the liquidation. Sad story about a decades old family business unable to compete.

I have one of the Sugar Creeks and am happy with it, that sucks that they went out of business. At least we're not up a creek without a paddle thanks to Tracy!

Off Topic: I have been thinking about ordering some qwik studs from these people, but I didn't know if they were reputable. Sounds like I needn't have worried.

This is just another good example of the reason to deal with the suppliers who really know knifemaking. Sure you might save a buck elsewhere occasionally, but when you need to talk to a knifemaker about a knifemaking problem....Guys like Tracy, James Poplin ( Pop's), Aldo, etc. are always the best sources. If we don't patronize them and keep them in business, we will be the ones who suffer.

The lower price was really appealing to me, and they seemed like great people to deal with.

Is there another alternative in that price range, or would I have to sucker up and get an Evenheat or Paragon?

I don't think there is, Don... they were hard to beat on price. I like my Sugar Creek very much and it was worth the cost but an Evenheat or Paragon are worth what they are selling for as well(if you get my meaning). I place it in the same category as my Grizzly 2x72 grinder. Well worth the money but you get what you pay for.

I have the Sugar Creek and I agree with Rick, he really summed it up. It is digital and holds temp well but could be a lot more solidly built. I'm just glad that Tracy made the elements!

Don, check this one ---> http://usaknifemaker.com/kinfedogs-oven.html

It isn't digital but looks to be top quality and the price is right. The size is perfect for most people and I really like the way it is built. I'd get it and maybe step up to digital one day if you feel it is necessary. I kind of want one myself and I have two kilns!

I just bought a sugar creek kiln on 2/22 and have not heard anything since....this does not bode well....

My Evenheat KF18 with Rampmaster ll control will be here any day. I am excited to finally do my own heat treating. I paid UNDER $1000 with FREE SHIPPING!!! I would have liked to buy from one of our own but I saved $380! No small chunk of change.

Get your $$ back and I can give you info on a beyond good deal for an Evenheat.

To bad they went out of business. I was going to take a drive down there soon to see what they had, there only about 2 hours south of my place. Luckily I saw this thread. I did try to contact them some time ago but never heard back, I know why now.
