I'am considering in getting a knife kiln from sugarcreek. I have read on some post here that some of you guys add a digital controller. Will it have a very big advantage if I have one installed instead of just having the controller that usually comes with it?

IMHO , having the programmable controller is a plus . You can set it to ramp up and soak without baby sitting it .

yes, unless you have the time to sit around and make the adjustments. it frees up your time to work on other projects. I have one and it helps alot.--marekz

I've got one Armand. sugarcreek with install it and everything for an additional $200 i believe. welll worth it.., you can continue on with whatever and not have to worry about it and you will KNOW that your temps are correct! plus with the way the foam pack them it'll make it to you safely.

I have one with the regular controller. I advise you to spend the extra money for the digital controller. I got mine off fleabay and did not have the option. I've been thinking about trying to upgrade it but I aint to electrically inclined. The oven works great but like the other fellas have said, you have to babysit it while soaking.

Thank you very much guys for the feed back. I will contact sugarcreek and add ask them how much will it cost total for the large kiln + digital controller. My only problem now is how much will it cost to have it shipped here to PI :(

I think with it's size and weight the freight and taxes would cost me more than price of the unit:o When I ordered my KMG from Rob Frink. I paid almost 2K total :thumbdn: ....but for me it was worth it!

Armand, they are great people. they marked it at whatever value i asked. i think mine was $50 and marked as a gift. great people!!

You can save some money buying your on unit and installing it yourself. Not very hard to do at all. You can purchase a decent PID with Ramp features for under 100.00 bucks. If you go the E-bay route you can find a basic PID without ramp or soak for under 50.00 bucks delivered. Just a couple of options for you to consider.

I bought one of the basic PIDs off ebay for my Tempering oven for around 30 bucks, it has worked flawlessly for several months now.

Shawn, the problem here in PI is that even if the declared value is just $50. The people at customs will still charge big taxes if they think that the item being imported looks of some value :grumpy:

The bad part is sometimes they would over value the item so that so you would be forced to make a bargain with them and give a bribe :barf:

I think It would be best if they just do the installation. I do not wan't to do the hassle of installing it myself :) ....atleast I won't get blamed if the unit gets damaged :p
