Good and cheap: Try a Rough Rider Stockman. One can be had for <$20.00 if you just want to try one without spending too much. (I did, and I EDC one now). Hope this helps.

Buck 303 Cadet. Are they currently produced in the USA?

They are.

Either the Buck or the vintage Schrade would be great for your purpose- I recommend you GET BOTH

Moore Maker Stockman
The Case is a bit longer. I've had one since I was eight (seven years) and its still sharp. Very good knife.

Also look at the Bucks, 301 and 303.
