Suggest a smaller Case knife for EDC?

Swayback jack in CV has been the best I have seen out of Case in over a decade.

Medium Stockman is not bulky but gives you three different blades to choose from, fine companion. Others have made good recommendations already, but how about a CASE Mini Wharncliffe Trapper? Hard to ignore the appeal of Wharncliffe.

I bought the Case/Bose Swayback Gent recently and it is one of the nicest pocket knives I've ever had. It's beautiful and it carries well.

Stay sharp,

thank you guys for all the recomendations, I have smaller hands and the main uses aee gonna be some light carving and whittling, opening beef jerky and stuff stainless or carbon doesn't matter

I love the mini texas toothpick just wished it was a lockback

one other question.. I like carbon for the ease of sharpening and razor edge you can get, but I hear case cv rusts just by looking at it, are the stainless blades that much harder to charpen with say a sharpmaker?

thank you again

I don't think you will have any trouble at all sharpening Case SS on a Sharpmaker. Yes, it is a little harder to sharpen but the difference is negligable.

If you don't want to polish and oil the blade(s) everyday, you will probably want to force a patina.

Case's stainless is pretty soft. Takes a razor edge very easily. Doesn't hold it for long though.

I like the mini copperlock. Slim and a clip blade to beat the band.

From smallest to largest my recommendations are:
min-copperhead (my vote to the wharncliffe version)
Swayback jack
Texas jack
mini trapper

Case CV will not rust by just looking at it. You will have to clean and dry it to keep if from rusting (brown surface rust and pitting) and it will "stain" or develop a patina with use. This patina will provide some minor resistance to rusting, but you have to maintain a CV blade or a 1095 or other carbon steel blade to keep rust away. Give it the care it deserves, it will be fine. Neglect it and it will rust into junk. All that said, I like CV. And I like the stainless Tru-Sharp too. If you can't control the storage environment, the stainless is better.

I like my Case Mini Trapper. It´s in Stainless Steel. It´s good to get resharpen. Very good to carry in front-pocket of a jeans...

Case 6308 Split Back Whittler. Great little knife and one frequently seen from the 70's and 80's on the auction site for some good deals.

I gave myself a Swayback Jack in CV for Christmas, and I am pleased with it. Peeling apples gave the Wharncliff a nice patina, and sharpens very easily. Rides in the pocket well too. I wish they had come out years ago.

Case mini-trapper or peanut. Carried a smooth chestnut bone mini-trapper for a long while daily. Sometimes alternated it with a CV yellow handled peanut. Sold the peanut, but wish it was still around. Both carried extremely well and did a lot of everyday office and home cutting tasks.

The Tru-Sharp stainless sharpened well and held up almost as much long as the CV, and both sharpened right back to shaving, often with just some stropping. If I let them go a little longer, then a few swipes on a fine Arkansas oilstone, a little stropping on bare leather and they were right back. I did the hot vinegar treatment on the CV I think. Thought the peanut I may have just used and let it develop while cutting fruit and veggies at lunch. Either way, I never had any problems carrying any of my CV knives in my pockets, even in the summertime, and I sweat in Texas heat. I'd just wipe em down every week or so with a tiny dab of mineral oil. Not much and not all that often.

My Soddie Jr and my Slimline trapper have been in a drawer for a few years, only recently being moved to a small knife wallet and I haven't even looked at them for long stretches over the last few years. I'd only give them the mere basic oiling when I set them aside. There might be a small bit of black spot here or there, but no rust, just patina. I've found CV is less likely to rust that straight 1095. After all it is called Chrome Vanadium.

I used both steels and both patterns for everything from cutting paper and string to BBQ Ribs and other lunch stuff when I was carrying them. I just got the mini-trapper out and realized I hadn't cleaned it the last time I put it up. Probably cause I was rotating it in and out for a while and hadn't intended to leave it up for so long. It still had some pocket fuss in it and maybe a little BBQ sauce or the like in a joint. Dang. Gonna have to give it an apology and a little going over. It still walks and talks with clean midstops. Realized looking at the edge on the clip blade that it still has the factory edge. I never hit it with a stone the whole time I carried it. A little bare leather stropping is the most it ever needed. It won't shave right now, but is still very usable sharp. And it is the stainless blade and was the one I used for most everything.

I don't hear too much about the Pocket Hunter but I like mine. It's about the same size as a Peanut and available in one and two blade versions.

I've got a Pocket Hunter but mine is in blue, very nice little knife.
As you have said, you don't hear much about them. The name seems to suggest a larger knife to me, I was surprised at its size when it arrived in the post.

I already EDC an izula 2 usually, but want a case knife for the little stuff.

Anyone have a recommendation? or any recommendation against case?

Thank you!

Since you're already carrying a small fixed blade like the Izula, you won't need much of a folder. The peanut is still my number 1 pick in a little pocket knife for what you described you'll be doing with it. Go for the CV. The rust boogy man is a greatly overly feared thing. I carry a CV peanut very often in summers on the Chesapeake Bay, and haven't had any rust issues at all. I just wipe down the knife with a dry bandana in the morning, and again at night. Once the blade gets a nice deep patina, it'll be fine. And CV goes good with chestnut bone.

Last year I gave my Dad a little Case penknife, and he loves it. They don't get much smaller than that!

Here's some that I throw in my pocket:
