This site needs a knife wiki.

To a degree, this site is one now, but it's not easy to find data because of the volume of references.

There are plenty of people here to write the articles, who know the history and the details that are of interest to us all.

The WIKI should include steel types, knife types (flat, hollow, convex, sabre, tanto); knife companies and their history as well as what knives they've produced, hopefully with pix. and so on.

A lot of the same questions get repeated and could be answered with simple links to the wiki, but the discussion would surely continue as it does now.

    Knife Identification

    Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

The best place for this question would be The Bernard Levine Knife Collecting and Identification Forum.

Oh, and READ THIS FIRST! How to ask questions that get answered.

Levine's Guide to Knives #4. Make sure to buy the 4th edition, the 5th was changed without the author's permission, and is a lesser book in a few important ways.

    Bruce Voyles's Antique Knives.

Stewart and Ritchie's Big Book of Pocketknives. Collection of catalog reprints.

Also checkout Knife World magazine: www.knifeworld.com

Also checkout dealers like AG Russell's Cutting Edge, nwknives.com, Bruce Voyles, Ebay, Etc....

Esav, a mighty piece of work to gather all those links, I'm honored to be
    mentioned amongst them!

And this as a sticky would be a great idea, so much information here!

Thanks, Gary. I try to keep adding new material. I just put in a link on lanyards and one on Liquidmetal this evening.

It's easy to keep handy on my Palm Desktop, because just as phatch said, "A lot of the same questions get repeated and could be answered with simple links"

    You're welcome. :)

It's mostly information collected little by little, as bookmarks, that I finally got around to listing like this.
