Maybe I'm weird...but I sort of enjoy hunting down the bits I'm interested in. I'm always surprised at what else I find that is interesting along my path...

Nasty, I enjoy searching the forums quite a bit as well, so either you're not weird, or we both are:)

Rusty--good move on making the thread sticky.

I guess a lot of forumites enjoy helping out other by doing the research for them. Have any of you been members of other forums where this was definitely not the case?

You've helped me a lot, Josh

Many times the newbies would be afraid to ask the questions; not wanting to be assaulted.
Rant on--------

I experienced that over in one of the Swordforum forums.
One of the few other forums I take time for.
Asked a question that was somehow taken by another member
as a challenge to the local expert
(who really was the expert).
I had just asked for a point of clarification.
And I did it nicely.
I was essentially told to study the forum before being impertinant.

Sore point for me.
Nobody knows everything, even the most expert.
And I'll delve into any point from any authority
when the point is unclear or doesn't make sense to me.
And we learn by asking questions & clarifying
our understanding.
If the expert won't answer the question,
then who do you ask.

We learn more by trying things that don't work
than by following rote instructions.

Preaching to the choir I know.

:) :) I really enjoy passing information on to other people or direction people to information I've come across in my own searches that I know will be helpful to them. I'm an instructor by profession, so I guess it carries over into my dealings on Bladeforums sometimes--either that or I'm just a know-it-all:D I've learned so much about khukuris and a million other things on this forum, from more Cantina members than I could list in a single post, that it feels very right to me to keep the information moving. I've never had a problem with one of my khukuris that someone here couldn't tell me how to fix. Now if I could only get the rest of my life squared away;)

And, if you go off topic a few times, the thread is closed. The flaming is commonplace, and the fighting is rampant. It's an English speaking forum in a tropical country...but keeps me update on the local politics, economy, people I know, etc.

I know that some of the Ex-Pat residents there who are the flamers have many personal issues and/or substance abuse problems that need to be resolved. The high level of negativity there, oftentimes voiced by way of disparaging and many times downright nasty comments about the citizens of the country keeps me away now. There should be the caveat, CAVE CANUM (beware of dog) seen on the opening page to warn newbies! I only lurk to find useful information anymore...

H.I.'s forum in contrast, just flows nicely, and is upbeat, comical at times, informative, and real "neighborly like". It's a nice change of pace from forums where you're constantly "walking on eggshells". Treads go off topic frequently here, nobody is rude at all, and the camaraderie is very much perceived... The forumites at H.I. love khuks, as much as they love people; simple as that. I might just stick around! :)
