Suggestions for 3" folder under $75ish

Hi all. As you can tell by my post count, I am very new to knives. In fact, I have a couple my grandpa willed to me (keepsakes) but no real knife I carry day to day. Time to change that. Problem is I don't know squat about them. I liked the M&P, simply because I have M&P pistols, but it did not take long to see those knives are garbage.

Because of the city where I work, I cannot pocket any knife with a blade longer than 3", so that makes the search tough. The use would be for daily carry and use (would have made opening the kids gifts easier this Christmas) and Heaven forbid I ever use it for this, self defense. Personally, I like the look of black knives, but that isn't a deciding factor.

I have some Amazon.com gift cetificates burning a hole in my pocket, and my budget is $75 (give or take a few bucks).

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Read a lot of threads already, but most reccomendations were for 4" blades.

Thanks everyone.

Take a look at the cold steel mini-ak47. I believe the blade is 3" and about an eighth of an inch thick. They're really tough and are set up for fast deployment.

Buck vantage pro. Flipper, g10 scales and a s30v blade. Hard to beat for the price!

Spyderco Delica is an awesome choice. Won't break the bank and is good quality. I have had many over the years. Also look into Benchmades and Kershaw (USA made models). Probably something right for you from one of these manufacturers.

I have never owned one but have heard good things about the Benchmade mini griptilian.

You can't go too far wrong with a Spyderco Delica.

I third(?)the Delica. Specifically the full flat ground version. It may not come in black, but the slicing performance is worth it IMO. If you really want black you can always get the regular version.

Kershaw Leek would also do the trick. They are available in black, and they have a number of blade steel options. I'm not sure if you want A/O, but they are very nice little knives.

Edit:Realized Kinda forgot you were new to knives. If you don't know, A/O stands for assisted open and means that when you open the blade about 30 degrees a spring or torsion bar will snap it out the rest of the way.

I just got my first good knife and its a delica. Just from having it a few days I absolutely love it! Sweet knife and relatively cheap ~$50. You wont regret it.

Sounds like you are interested in modern one hand opening. There are a lot of options, just a few
Delica 4 - saber or ffg
Benchmade mini grip
Buck vantage pro small
I think the cold steel mini lawman falls in your criteria

ETA: Kershaw skyline

Then there is always the traditional route to give even more options.

Good luck on your search.

+1 on the minigrip. Super smooth axis lock, 2,9 inch blade and under three ounces. My vote for your edc.

I would reccomend you get a Cold Steel Medium Voyager (2011 Version) it has the 'triad lock' which is basically the strongest lock and the knife only cost around $30.

One more for the Delica. I also just got a Kershaw RAM that is a good knife but the blade is just a hair over 3 inches. Mini grip is a good knife as well but to me it feels a little smaller in the hand. Quality blade though. I hear that the Skyline is an excellent knife but I don't own one.

Lower budget but nice are Spyderco Persistence or Tenacious. The steel and made in China shouldn't deter you.

Recently there's a new Kershaw Crown at 10$ at Walmart!

However, if Amazon is where your extra fund is, get those suggested models. Kershaw, Spyderco, Cold Steel. Rather not suggesting Benchmade as it often comes not sharp (too obtuse), since you mention you're new to knives.

Personally I go with cheap but good Sanrenmu and Bee/Enlan, due to ease of getting them here, as opposed in US.

And .. Welcome to the forum!

Who knew there were so many options. I'll have to spend some time looking at these online. I definitely prefer to more aggressive look. Not sure why, they just catch my eye.
