suggestions for a good way to descretly save for a high end knife.

Get up early and make your own breakfast in the morning start taking your lunch don't go out for dinner and don't go into those little convinces store at the gas station . That's about $80. On saving a week .

I tell my wife. "I want this knife, and it costs about this much". She opens her Excel spreadsheet types for 5 minutes and tells me how long I have to wait before we can buy it. Sometimes it's pretty cool being married to an accountant.
Granted, that's only on high-end production/custom knives. If it's under $100 I just save up the cash by socking away any bill under $10 at the end of each day until I have enough.

If God wanted you to scrimp and save for what you want He wouldn't have invented convenience stores and handguns! :D

Been throwing change in a jar for a while now and its taking forever to save up that 400-500$

I want a way to save but descretly so I won't miss the money and one day I'll check on the savings and it'll be ready and I'll be like wow amazing surpise to get that dream knife. Basically I wanna set up a way to save and forget about it until it's time to check. I'm 21 and my savings skills aren't the best so any suggestions would br appreciated and I want it out of site out of mind so I Dont tap it early.

You are young at 21 with no real life expierence, and as you age your value will change. Don't group up too fast, enjoy your youth, and keep putting omoney in that jar. Maybe a picture of what you are saving for on the jar will help.

Well it depends on if you receive weekly or bi weekly checks. However your pay period is. Set a date of when you would like to have the knife by and divide that by your pay periods then see how much you have to set aside. I have always just put a set amout of money away per week and put it into an envelope, but you have to pretent like this money dosent even exist NO MATTER WHAT. This has helped me save for a motorcycle and several knives.

I too use the FICA trick...a few extra bucks a week in taxes and a nice little bonus. I also yank whatever cash is still in my wallet on pay day and put it in an envelope...my treasure chest. I toss my change in a can too...when it is full it is nearly a hundred bucks.

Make lunch and brown bag instead of buying it when at work, burn more wood and use less furnace oil, drive less and walk more. Or do what most people do, just charge it on the card and pay later, much later.

Setup online banking with a direct-deposit checking account and then link a savings account to it. Run your finances so that you only ever spend money out of your checking account. Then, set up a weekly automatic transfer of $10 or $20 from checking to savings. You'll have your $500 in 6 months to a year.

Set up direct deposit on your paycheck and have a percentage go into your savings account vs ur checking account.

If you work, claim 0 on your w2 form and elect to contribute additional funds per paycheck (10 dollars a check if paid biweekly) and at end of year when you do your taxes you will get money back to pay for it.

All this trickery isn't necessary. Messing around with your taxes? What? Who in their right mind would give Uncle Sam an interest free loan, just so you could save for a knife? That is just insanity to me.

If you want a knife, you put money aside from your paycheck until you have enough for it. Seems pretty simple to me.
