Hey all, I have gotten bit by the flipper and the wharny bugs and now I am trying to find the knife for the cure. I have been searching for quite some time but I still have yet to have found the one I want. I have looked around for a wharncliffe but sheepsfoot are similar so I would not mind it too much.

I would appreciate any suggestions [or photos!] you guys may have, and I apologize for another "suggest me a knife" thread as I know many are tired of it. Hopefully this helps someone as well.

Purpose: typical EDC in urban environment and a light work knife.

:Specs:
Modern one-handed Folding knife
Blade: 2.5-3.5 inches
Blade shape: Wharny or a modified wharny, no recurves. [but I would prefer just a straight utility edge]
Opening Method: Flipper [with a additional method would be nice such as a thumbhole or thumbstud]
Locking Mechanism: No particular preference but needs to lock open [ie no slipit/slipjoints].
Steel: Mid-high steel [ie VG-10, 154CM, S30v, S35VN, etc.]
Pocket Clip: discreet clip would be preferred.
Overall: under 8 inches.
Price range: $100-$200 [maybe more, depending on the knife...]
I would like to avoid Boker as they have not been my best experiences.
Prefer something that is available on the market or readily available.

On another note, I wouldn't mind having a custom one made for me but I would not know where to find someone to build it, recommend someone in particular? My budget for it would be $300-$400.

Tilt is big knife but light, I really like it.

It feel sooo good to flip

You might want to try Phil Tham. He can make a nice Wharncliffe folder for you at that price, but I don't know about flippers.

I have been admiring the Tilt for quite some time now. I really do hope they make another run of them. Gotta love the flipper + KVT.

I will look into it. He does make some very nice, elegant knives. I might have to get something from him in the future.

If you're gonna go...go BIG

I saw that too! Sadly I think that may be waaaay out of my budget. Now I need a budget version of that. Darn, why couldn't Rick work with ZT to make that! The size of the 0550 with the hardware, scales, and flipper of the 0560 and the wharny blade from Hinderer would be the dream!

Snody Gravitator
Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air (might be too small).

The Snoody Gravitator is a little difficult to find right now as I think they may be discontinued by now.

The Spyderco Air is indeed a tad too small. I would like it if the Air came with a clip though.

Flippers?:p:D

Yeah, I like wharnys especially with flippers but it seems that not many feel the same. I would go the custom route but I am not sure how to design one to be made and cost would be a bit of an issue...

sorry, i said that for the other members that were suggesting the snody gravitator and yojimbo but forgot to take their quotes:D
I also love flippers! Also with another method of deployment like you:)
I even have a special preference for the ones with usable dual thumbstuds that act has blade stops, like the ones on the XM.
A flipper insingo would be awesome for me! I would love me one like that:D

The Grav is my favorite knife to date! It cuts great! I really wish it had a flipper or some sort of wave but its fine without it. Its extremely smooth too. Probably the smoothest knife and my main work horse. Hasnt failed on me one bit.

EDIT: Also some gravitators can be found with just some looking. They're not to hard to find. I paid an extremely good deal for mine. Way to good to pass up. I could go without the serrations though...

Oh okay, was not sure about it. Well I appreciate their suggestions and do take them into consideration. I agree with the dual deployment, I really like have options available.
I would love a flipper insingo as well. It is such a versatile blade shape. Hinderer makes a great knife with the Wharn/flipper but sadly no one else offers anything close to it or anyone I can find anyway.

The Grav looks pretty cool and really like the grinds and the handles on it. Looks pretty sweet. Reminds me of a Yojimbo but more fixed up.

Brous blades silent soldier folding version is a beast knife its on blade hq

I actually do have the Brous SSF and it is indeed a beast. It is probably my favorite and perhaps the best(?) wharn/flipper I can find as of now. Still searching for a partner for it :)

My current wharny lineup. The Brous SSF and the Spyderco Urban get the most pocket time out of them. Not sure what sparked the wharny inside of me but I really like 'em.
