Suggestions for an assisted opening tanto blade in the $50-60 range?

If anyone still looking for an A/O tanto, the SOG Trident is still the "Weekend Special Offer" at Knifecenter.com.
And, my own personal recommendation would be the Tanto Blur, the CRKT Heihi and Hissatsu, and the HARNDS Nyx.

I only caught it because i own one, and certainly couldve swore it wasnt aus8.
Vg10 would've definitely been a great choice for the Heiho... Even aus10 which you don't see used all that much, but is a nice upgrade from aus8 with the (much) higher carbon content.
Done well though, 8cr14mov isn't the worst all around entry level steel, and CRKT has been doing OK with it in my experiences the past few purchases (my Heiho was won in a GAW). All said though, it is a bit ridiculous (looking) in public, but it always does the job I require ask it to do...

+1 on the Blur. I just got mine back today after a month at Kershaw for sharpening and reshaping the tip after some accidental damage. I knew I missed it, but not how much until I felt that amazing "thwack" as it sprung open again for the first time. Glad to have it back.

What about a SOG Flash 2? Anyone have any experience with it?

The only thing I don't like about mine is the fact that it's impossible to close one-handed. The whole reason I OWN assisted knives is so I can use them one-handed! It's a snappy system, though, the blade is sturdy, FLIES open and I believe it's AU8.

If you are not looking for CS type of tanto with "americanized" tip/secondary tip,
this will fit your requirements and budget (from A-zon):

This is to have some idea how it is comparing sizewise to some other popular folders.
Closing it one handed is non-issue. There is something you can do with the torsion bar/spring and it'll not rub in the liners, it's a 5 min. "fix",
I'll let you know if interested.

Congrats OP for finding something you liked. For other users with a limited budget but looking for a tanto, A/O knife, perhaps look to the very affordable CRKT Heiho. The assist component is stupid simple to remove (if that is your prerogative), and for the price I have yet to find a knife that locks up as solid, especially with the LAWKS system implemented. The knife itself is a little heavy for the size, and AUS8 isn't the greatest steel, but this knife has handled everything I've ever thrown at it, and it remains a go-to knife if I need a smaller workhorse that if I ever manage to ruin it is easily replaceable. It is not given enough credit around here, IMO.

This. ^^^^

The Heiho is a great little knife and is well put together. This is my second one below:
