Suggestions for dressing up a zinc plated pin?

I'm using a zinc plated linch pin on a sheath and I want to dress it up a but. Are there any suggestions as to how to make it look a little better than the plain zinc plating. Are there any paints or finishes that someone could recommend. The linch pin will be used, so the finish should be durable. Will a FC or vinegar soak do anything to it? I'm not against sending it out to be plated, but I'm not sure it can be plated with it being a moving part. Thanks in advance.
