Suggestions for folders to use while wearing winter gloves

I'm 45 miles northwest of Chicago, and when it's -15°, I like my Spyderco Manix 2. My big thick gore-tex winter gloves have no problem with it. The oversized hole is nice.

However, an OTF is even better.

I'm a native Texan myself btw. Galveston originally.

The digital camo w/plain (un-coated) blade. I have enough dark colored knives so I didn’t want the black G10. I tried to find a dark blue one, but they seem to be sold out everywhere.
Good choice, I've been temped to get a 2nd one in that same confirmation . Great knife and the standard s30v is excellent. Lol, I'm excited for you :)

If you don’t mind a lockback, the Cold Steels Voyager XL and 4 Max Scout really fill the hand and give you generous cutting edge. When it comes to workhorse knives, it doesn’t get any better than those two. Well, the CS Spartan is also a favorite of mine, but the recurving blade shape may not be everyone’s cup of tea. The thumb studs can be tricky to deploy with gloves so just use two hands. No need to be ubercool tactical high speed no drag.

As long as you don’t get nuts with batoning or anything like that, a lot of Spydies are excellent choices too, especially since you said budget isn’t a concern. The Military as you said, Shaman, Manix 2 XL, Police 4. Don’t sleep on the Resilience too. That one’s a good beater knife.

While I love the Endura 4, as a dude with large-ish hands, I want something with bigger scales especially when using winter gloves.

Happy hunting. Post pics of the knife you pick!

Suggestions? Don't go with a folder. If it's cold enough to wear gloves you are going to lose dexterity either from thick enough gloves to keep the cold out or from thinner gloves that let the cold in. It makes opening and closing knives that much harder and increases the chance that you are going to end up with some sort of accident. I grew up in Alaska, it doesn't sound like the OP is going into weather that bitter, but it's also worth noting that pivots don't work as well and blades are more likely to chip when you go sub zero. Fixed blades are the way to go if you need to keep hands warm, even mittens are possible using one.

Re-sheathing a fixed blade around puffy warm clothing is a real pain.

Agreed. I always like my outer layer to be flat. Puffy works until it gets ripped, and working with equipment and knives means a rip-rich environment. A good heavy jacket of duck cotton doesn’t get caught in stuff, is moderately resistant to slashes and punctures when coworkers have poor tool discipline, and won’t turn you into a human torch if it meets flame. There’s enough other stuff to think about in cold weather, no need to add a possible fail point with a folder.

The Military came in today. I tried it with my pile-lined leather gloves, and it was very easy to deploy. Even more impressive was how easy the large lockbar access cutout made it to depress the lockbar and unlock the blade. I definitely prefer the Military over my knives w/compression and Axis locks for this application, so I’m very happy with this purchase. Thanks to those who confirmed their Military’s usage while wearing gloves.
