My brother wants a good folder for christmas and he is not really a knife guy so I am going to get him something. Looking to spend 60 or less. I am out of the folder game and have moved to more interest in fixed blades, but I was looking for something different than the Spyderco delica or some of the higher end Gander mountain type folders.

Anything new out there or anything solid that has a good steel, sturdy clip, and good weight and strength??
Nothing too crazy, a good simple blade design and easy one handed opening and closing are good.

Thanks.

First two suggestions are good ones. Also, Spyderco (Delica or Endura) and A G Russell have folders that are in your price range and are good buys.

Ka-Bar's Dozier series is also very good and reasonably priced. The blade steel is AUS8 which is very easy to resharpen, very corrosion resistant, and pretty tough. It doesn't have the edge holding ability of something like S30V or CPM154, but it's a great steel for a NKP to use and maintain.

I suggest the Art Of War line of knives. They have fixed blades and folders that might be of interest to you.

I would stick with the classics either the griptilian or mini-grip or for a little bit bigger handle size for bigger hands the delica or endura, they're popular and well liked for a reason.

I'll toss in the Kershaw G-10 Tyrade. They were done in orange, tan and black. 154CM spine and a CPM-D2 cutting edge. A bunch of knife for around $80 shipped.

Kershaw Skyline - $35
Keshaw OD-1 - $40
Buck Vantage Pro - $40-45
Spyderco Tenacious - $30-35
Spyderco Persistance - $28-33
Spyderco Endura 4 - $60 and up
Spyderco Native - $55-65+
Spyderco Delica - $50-60+
Bencmade Vex - $35-40
Benchmade Mini Griptilian - $55-65

A fun knife is the Kershaw Blur, AO is really convenient. You get the the blur in various steels too, i have the tactical one which is 440 correct me if im wrong

hmmm, it seems like the old spyderco is the best choice, but I was just trying to find something that you cant get at gander mountain....hmmm . i went today to look and they had no bm's and only a vg-10 delica, which is outta my price range.

Funny that you asked about anything new, and we come back with a list of classics! :D

If you looked around, you could find a new Mini Grip for $60 shipped. Aside from the RAM, Leek, and OD-1, some of the other Kershaw offerings are a little more esoteric IMHO.

You really can't go wrong with a G-10 Byrd Cara Cara or Meadowlark, either. These will have a little more heft in the hand than some of the other choices (except the RAM)

Although I admire Kershaw's selection, innovation and quality below $50, and I would personally pick an Endura in that range, I still think the "nicest" gift knife in that range that fits your criteria is the MiniGrip with the Leek or RAM a close second.

I vote for mini-grip or benchmade nagara 10700. The nagara is really a nice blade for the money ($65). Good luck and let us know what you decide.
