Recommendation? Suggestions for next fixed blade knife?

NEED
- Top budget, about $90-100 (less is better)
- Blade no longer than 3.9" If it hits the 4" mark, it's out of the running
- Traditional styling.
- Blade and handle shape conducive to woodcraft.

WANT
- As non threatening looking as possible. Leather sheath, wood or micarta scales, all good.
- A steel that is relatively easy to sharpen on standard ceramic rods and a strop.
- Prefer micarta, or wood scales, and open to G10.
- Looking to avoid polymer/FRN/Grivory scales.
- Probably not interested in a hollow grind.
- Made in USA is preferred, but not make or break.
- Prefer black coated blades (but I can always strip as needed so not make/break).

Kauhavan Puukkopaja.

- Around $90-100 - check ($96,42)
- Blade no longer than 3.9" - check (3.54")
- Traditional styling - check (very much so).
- Blade and handle shape conducive to woodcraft - check (made for it).

- As non threatening looking as possible - check (could not possibly be any more non-threathening, as its far from 'stabby' looking).
- Leather sheath - check.
- Wooden handle - check.
- A steel that is relatively easy to sharpen on standard ceramic rods and a strop - check (Laurin Metalli carbon steel).
- not interested in a hollow grind - check (blade is as far from a hollow ground as humanly possible).
- Murica - negative. If you want a US made knife, get a Bushcrafter HC or other LT Wright, as others have mentioned. They are excellent knives for the money.

"Prefer black coated blades (but I can always strip as needed so not make/break)."

That does not compute - assume you mean, that you prefer a NON-coated blade.

Russell Canadian Belt Knife, Roselli Carpenter (puukko) -- both excellent knives, 110% functional, non-threatening (well, to most sheeple, anyway).

I've got a Kellam Wolverine & will add myself to the list of people recommending it. (When I got it, the M4 that I originally recommended was about $15 less than the wolverine.)

I've also got an Enzo Trapper that I used to use quite a bit. It's a little over your limit (unless you buy it in kit form); but worth a look

One out of Ahti Metsa, Kauhavan Puukkopaja Koristepuukko, Erapuu Tuohitako and Woodsknife Yleispuukko. Not US made, but tick all the other boxes and Finns are good at making puukkos ;) All these have Lauri blades, from 80CrV2 tempered at 59,5 HRC.

One of these. Not US made, but tick all the other boxes .......
Just FYI: You might want to delete those links before a MOD does it for you.

Non-supporting vendor rules and all that.

Great knives BTW and also where I got my above pick from.

Oh man... so much good stuff in this thread... something tells me I'm going have to buy a few of these, and then weed out to keep only the one/ones that fit the best.

The suggestion for the LT Wright New Gen got me thinking about LT, and I realized the Bushcrafter HC in natural canvas micarta is 3 5/8", and checks every single box... It is 1075 carbon steel, but I'm actually totally ok with 1075 so long as it has good HT (according to the literature, it's Peter's, so that ought to be pretty reliable). It's $103 with free shipping from TKC. So it means i get to support a BFC vendor, and buy American, and check every single box...*

I'm not 100% set, but I think I may have a winner here...

*ok fine, I blow the budget by $3.00... I'll live.

Yes sorry. A case of acute cerebral flatulence on my part. I prefer uncoated.

That Kauhaven looks very nice... I may pick one up just for fun...

Lt Wright HC Bushcrafter is a good one to look at.

It's kinda what I'm thinking. Looks like a great general purpose kinda blade shape, i like the materials, even the sheath has a removable dangler (danglers on smaller knives are just useless unless backpacking with a pack that has a thick waist strap, in my experience. I do like them on larger knives, like my Condor Moonshiner though.)...

I think this one hits the nail on the head for me, but I've got a few options that I hadn't thought of before this thread. Thanks guys!
