Suggestions for small fix blade for running

I was curious as to some suggestions for a small fix blade knife that I could clip to my running pants for my longer runs in more secluded areas. I really love my CRKT Minimalist knife, but don't know of a really great way to access it quickly while running (as a neck knife, I don't think I'd be able to get it out from under my shirt in the event of an emergency, I also don't want to run with it hanging outside my shirt, advertising that I have a knife). I am looking for a knife in the event I get jumped while out on my jogs, so a short, but aggressive blade would be helpful.

I'd love to hear any ideas from you pros out there!

Thanks!
Charli

I have both the Benchmade Nimravus Cub 147 and the Spyderco Streetbeat, Both fit the bill perfect. I rotate and EDC'm in my own kydex sheath and a Spyderco G-Clip, horizontal cross-draw.
The Benchmade is lighter so it rides on my sweatpants in the sheath quite well.....Both are fine knives......

How about something like an Emerson LaGriffe?

As you have pointed out, the strong suite for a neck knife is concealment. As it does that well, it does not lend itself to fast deployment. Just the reverse, actually. However, a number of folks adapt them to provide a fast draw. Elastic bands have been sewn into pants pockets, ankle sheaths, etc.

As a lot of running shorts preclude these, try carrying your neck knife on a half inch piece of nylon strap around the top of your hips and under your shorts. A small plastic draw buckle will keep it in place and allow you to place the knife where it is comfortable and convenient for you.

I just bought my wife a Becker Necker for running. I used para-cord & made a neck strap. I told her if it bounces too much, then i can make another strap that goes around her torso, out of elastic, with 2 clips, for fast on/off. Another good option if you don't want something around your neck, is the KaBar TDI series. They have a clip to secure to your shorts/sweatpants.

I run with my Carter neck knife around my neck all the time.

It's the perfect running knife. You can also get a pipsqueek model for lighter options - it is a fully functioning hand-forged knife that is half the size of regular knives but still with premium materials and craftsmanship.

The TOPS SSS is a small chisel ground 2.5" blade, with a paracord wrap handle. Inside the paracord are fishing hooks. The micarta sheath has 3 magnets to hold the knife, a ferro rod, a sharpener, and a signal mirror. It's a mini survival kit in a small package. It's something to think about, depending on where you are jogging.
The Blind Horse Tiger Knapp is a lightweight neck knife. Full length handle, 2.5" or so blade length. It is one solid piece, no scales or handle wrap. It's a good little blade.
Another thing I own is from Cold Steel, a plastic spike. It's very, very light, 3 sided blade, with about 6" worth of spike. It comes with a neck sheath, so you hang the sheath, and pull the spike down. It is light, wont rust, and I wouldn't want to be stabbed with it.
I'm sure there are others, but it just depends on what else, and where else you want to use the knife.
ESEE Izula, Becker BK14 and Bk11, Bark River PSK are all good knives, but you'll have to find what suits your needs.

Nim Cub II is a great little knife. 3.5" Blade and about 7.8" overall length.

Comes in any color as long as its black and I really like the handle. I think it lets you get a very firm grip on it.

Those Carter knives look great. I'd personally get the best knife I could afford, and use it for more than just running. Just my $.02

an esee izula would be an excellent choice and the retention on the stock sheath would be more than enough for running

I wouldn't use a carbon knife (i.e. Carter).

Sweat, rain, snow, etc.

A great specific tool might be a knife made out of G10.
I have seen a few of of these by Tom Krein and some other makers.
Extremely light, cool looking, and impervious to the elements.

I have a DLC coated Simonich Bitterroot (a bit small) and a Krein Dogfish (S30V) for biking and jogging.

BTW, that Lagriffe looks ideal.
A small, easily deployed slasher...

+1.

I have a Koster neck knife in D2. For a semi-stainless steel it sure doesn't like being exposed to sweat and skin. It isn't bad and never got close to pitting but it did develop some light rust in the holes.

A Krein Dogfish or even the CRKT Dogfish would work fine. I beat the snot out of my CRKT version and it has held up fine. It doesn't hold an edge long but it's easy to touch up.

In all practicality, wouldnt it be more effective to carry a much less lethal option? pepper spray, kubotan, stun gun(if legal). Just saying. That being said, I don't run as much as I rollerblade and bike. We do have an area with a few hundred stairs though by an old toboggan slide that we "Run." I've seen it all there as it seems to be a great pervert hang out. After seeing a girl get jumped and luckily a guy jumped in, I carry either my Umnumzaan or mission critical v-5 neck knife. I usually carry the umnumzaan because the skull crusher/glass breaker makes the knife non lethal. Also, I usually carry a length of rope or a large zip-tie incase a person ever needed to be both subdued and then detained until law enforcement could arrive. a neck knife with a paracord neck lanyard though provides you with a rope and a knife.

I’m becoming a big fan of J. Scroggs custom knife work, I have one of his boot knives and I’m thinking about getting this little guy.

The sheath system for this little knife allows for a multitude of carry options. They are grate little knives.

That's a beautiful knife. I've always thought a kitchen knife would make a great edc fixed blade. This knife really reminds me of one but in a this would work perfect way.

I run all the time and carry a knife in case of wild animals and secondly for the crazy people out there. I have tried all sorts of carry methods and have found that a folder clipped to my waistband at four oclock is the best carry. I can get to it quickly and deploy it fast. Believe it or not I typically carrry a ZT 0350 and hardly notice it is there. I also sweat a ton so I take the knife apart once every two weeks and clean it, been doing this for over a year and have not seen a bit of rust yet. It is still the best carry for my long jobs I have found yet. Neck knives are OK for shorter jogs but if you are jogging for more than 30 minutes the rope will rub your neck raw. I have also tried clipping a gerber river knife at the same spot. This worked but believe it or not I can get to my ZT and get it open faster than I could get the fix blade out of the sheath. The angle made it difficult to lift the knife out. Give a folder a try sometime, it does not take long to get used to it.
