Suggestions for small fix blade for running

Here's something from the left field. Meyerco Wharning. All of $32 bucks, can be clipped to your waist with the kydex sheath that comes with it. At $32 it's not such a big thing if you lose it. Steel is not crazy(7Cr17) but will easily take a freaky edge and probably keep it well enough for SD. Very easy to conceal with a t-shirt over it.

I don't like much of anything on me when I am running besides my clothes. However, because of its size I have been carrying a Spyderco Ladybug Salt for awhile now. It's not big or scary but it's better than nothing. It's been plenty salty too on some hot summer days.

I think a MOD crucible would fit the bill. However don't be shy of a simple yet very functional spyderco endura 4 or a delica for a smaller size. These will serve well easy one hand deployment stainless and have a shape that can be used for utilitarian task too

cold steel makes some nice spikes tanto vers. & grivory( they have thong holes) .I use the spikes when I'm going on walks in certain areas, also kabar TDI are nice

A little while back I carried a Gerber Guardian clipped to the waistband of my running shorts, just for kicks. It was actually pretty comfortable, didn't rattle, and I wasn't worried about it falling out or anything. Definitely not a good knife in terms of practical use, but kinda nifty.

Just be aware of local anti-dagger laws when using anything dual-edged like the Guardian.

I tuck a CS Voyager in my waistband... not a FB but light, convenient to carry, and just as effective...

I like the Emerson LaGriffe. More practical is a folder that clips to a pocket. I carry a 3 inch blade, 4 inch handle fixed blade. The leather sheath covers most of the blade, but enough to pull it out. Its a Busse SAR 3. Pepper spray is good too to keep distance from an attacker or a dog.

Once you pull that blade out, folder or fixed, use it quickly and get away from the area.

I wouldn't use a carbon knife (i.e. Carter).

Sweat, rain, snow, etc.

+1.

I have a Koster neck knife in D2. For a semi-stainless steel it sure doesn't like being exposed to sweat and skin. It isn't bad and never got close to pitting but it did develop some light rust in the holes.

A Krein Dogfish or even the CRKT Dogfish would work fine. I beat the snot out of my CRKT version and it has held up fine. It doesn't hold an edge long but it's easy to touch up.

Maybe, but in my experience I've never had any issues. For a year and a half I used to cycle as my sole mode of transportation in Phoenix, Arizona - I rode around 125 miles a week and never had any issues with rust. It caused a slight patina on the core along the tang, but other than that the knife was perfectly fine. You have to remember that since the high carbon steel is sandwiched between SUS410 the only portion that could really rust is covered by the kydex. If rust is a large concern you can always spray the blade lightly with some liquid paraffin or EVOO, but like I said - I never had an issue and I used to sweat balls cycling in 120º heat.

And now I'm in Oregon where it rains every day and I have yet to experience any adverse effects.

how about one of those fgx nightshades from cold steel. They are extremely light, and look menacing. You could always stab if need be. otherwise I would say a folder clipped iwb.

Ka Bar TDI! Or heck why not just run with a gun wrapped in a towel you're in gun friendly UTAH!

If your on a budget I think the Boker plus Tom Krein pocket bowie would be an excellent choice also 440c is a pretty corrosion resistant steel.
