Suggestions for some new shoes...

Some of the new Salomon trail runners have a quick-tying feature. It looks handy but I haven't tried them on yet, so I'm not sure if the laces can slip or if the shoes can be laced up very tight.

I love my pair of Montrail trail runners (Montrail Storm II). I'm probably going to go with their shoes again when my current pair dies. Their shoes and optional shoe inserts fit my wide feet much better than anything else I've tried. Since you have flat feet and probably overpronate as a result, you might want to try out Montrail's optional inserts ($20-$30); they support my arches much better than the stock inserts or Superfeet, which both have fairly crummy arch support.

Hi Krefcenz-

Nice shoes if you're a businessman, but Max Thunderstone (the original poster) said the shoes would be used for work, play, trail running, and everything else. Let's see what your feet look like after running five miles in Moab, Utah with them kicks on yer' feet.

I'd take Allen Edmunds for dress shoes. For casual, the new Rockport Hydroshield system is worth looking into. And if you want an oxford, I'd go with the Northfield (pictured below). $90. It's waterproof and allows the upper to breathe.

My first and last pair of Ecco's had the soles fall apart quite readily. Chunks just started coming out of the soles on both shoes. Hence, no more Eccos.

Another vote for Vasque boots/shoes. The make a bunch of models in the approach/trail running style with and without goretex. Mine were very comfy for everyday and moderate off trail hiking.
