Suggestions? Large Recon 1 vs Voyager

Thanks :D Is that grip tape or are those custom handle scales?

It's a gun grip tape, it's called GT5000 or GT500 or something like that. Just search "gun grip tape" on amazon and it should be the first one you see. It's rubbery not sandpaper-ish so it's better on your pocket.

Damn that g10 is aggressive. I love the stout pocket clip, but my pants are crying.
If you remove the clip, put it in a padded vice and bend it out until it has a 1/16-3/32" gap (checked with a straight edge), it will deploy much easier and still hold securely, without having to sand the g10'.

Might just be crazy but it bothers me when the clip doesn't touch the scale. I put up with it on my Hold Out III because the clip is so strong. I bent the clip on my Recon XL out so that it wasn't touching the scale and as a result it would produce a ringing noise when the blade was opened.
Another alternative for weakening a clip is to drill a hole in it or narrow it out to weaken the spring. Here's a photo of someone with a Hold Out III who slotted the clip -

It's too bad Cold Steel doesn't use thin spring steel. I'm guessing they just use 304 sst sheet metal.

Congrats on the new knife. Just keep carrying it in the pocket and the G-10 will smooth out after a while, faster if you are wearing jeans a lot. The clip tho, you may wanna loossen it up a but. If you like the Recon 1 tanto, and want something smaller and slimmer, the Code 4 is almost like a scale down version with identical shape. Be sure to do this:

Nice work with the grip tape on those bud..

As with many knife purchases.... There is the lust faze, then I get it and its the excitement\fondling faze, then the slight disillusion/picking out flaws faze, Finally I usually return to the upper middle ground basic appreciation mind set once again.

QFT, lol

Didn't expect it, but my second CS is a FinnWolf. After hearing reports of bad heat treat, I decided to get it anyway. Gotta play with a more budget friendly knife from time to time. Carved pumpkins and now pineapples. :)

You can take the bite out of the G-10 with just a few passes of 400 grit paper. And loosening the clip is a necessity unless you want to pay for new pants.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this yet regarding the tight clips and wear and tear on jeans. I own four Recon-1s and just got the Canada Only special satin-stainless Recon-1. It is the knife of my life! The clip was perfect. But on all my others I found that just slipping a dinner fork under the clip and VERY GENTLY prying it upward does the trick. It takes very little, just enough to take a little tension off. Also, I find the G-10 sharpness doesn't last that long when sliding it in and out of the pocket and carrying it daily. Of course, to speed up the process you can use a little extra fine 400 grit (as mentioned above). Personally, I have never found it necessary. Cold Steel knives are on a roll!!

I like the stonewashed blades. You can't go wrong with a Voyager. I have 6 variations, and a couple of older model Voyagers. Get a Recon later. Except for the DLC blade, I think the American Lawman is a better knife than the Voyager, and the Recon. I snagged a few XL Recons (AUS8) before they were discontinued. I like the old stripable black paint. The 3" Recon is unbeatable if you like smaller work knives.

Well I see you made your decision and Im sure you wont be dissapointed in the least, but I have to cast a late vote for the Voyager. I am a voyager fanatic and I believe dollar for dollar they are the best folders out there. I have a Recon 1 that I really like but the large tanto voyager beats it to the slight belly of the tanto, the rediculously smooth action and the fact that its slightly blade heavy allowing you to fling it out without ever touching the thumb studs. Oh yeah and its just about half the price. Too bad you cant carry XL's because that is REALLY where the voyagers shine. The clip point is like carrying a folding bowie/machete/kitchen knife. I just cant say enough about the clip point XL, its probably my favorite folder of all time, and the Vaquero may be one of the most devastating folders you can carry for SD. That being said I really want to pick up an XHP recon before they are gone.
Some obligatory pics to support my point:

True my go to thrasher EDC is a Voyager XL when I am not carrying the Espada XL, Holdout I, or TiLite 6" Aluminum. No limit here on the length of a folder for carry, but you have to be cognizant of city/county law because they can supersede State Law. I know the regs where I go and adjust accordingly, luckily where I live and usually go it is the State Laws they use. And no length on fixed blade either but has to be out in the open at all times in a sheath at your waist only, cops drive by me without a flinch when I am walking with my Magnum Tanto IX or Trailmaster. Hard to believe this is California with their gun laws.
