Suggestions on a good 3" fixed blade?

I have leather sheaths that are 60 years old, still work and the knives still get used. I have a 100 year old bayonet with leather sheath still in good shape.

I store all my knives in the leather sheath. I had a rust problem as a kid, but not anymore. A properly oiled or waxed blade will not rust in a sheath. However, I do a look see and re-oil about every year.

Dozier does have a good Kydex sheath, but it's not for everyone. I find Kydex ugly, so do others. However, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a leather one and much easier to mass produce.

A good leather sheath is fitted to the knive, can be tooled, can be in multiple colors, you can have tough leather on the outside, soft pigskin or deerskin on the inside. From my perspective, all around, leather is better.

Some knife makers have patterns that are hand made but virtually identical from knife to knife. They are cranked out and sold in catalogs (e.g. AG Russell). Others knife makers have a basic blade shape, but steel, handle material, bolsters, ornementation are picked based upon what strikes their artistic fancy. Each knife is different, maybe not custom but certainly original. I buy both but prefer the unique.
