My son tried to immitate me when I was battoning some wood for our fire today....
This did`nt turn out very well for him, the Helle Scout-knife he loved broke at the handle...
The look on his face made me promise to get him "a knife like mine" (meening it`s got to have a full tang)..

I am looking for: Full tang construction, good finger-guard, 3" (ish) blade...
Preferably Scandi-ground, but not a must (I usually regrind other styles)...
Affordable price, and has to fit the hand of the average 10-year old boy, who wants to learn bushcrafting from his father...

Any ideas and suggestions will be helpfull...

Well, heck... if he's anything like me :o (55 years ago), something he'll lose. But check out Ragweed Forge - lots of choices there.

Well, since you're a Beckerhead, get him one of the tweeners. They look like the perfect size for young hands.

How much are you looking to spend? I'm not aware of any scandi with 3" blade, there are 4"-5" ones I know of. Of those the cheapest one would be Mora, however it's not a full tang. Spyderco makes a nice bushcraft knife out of O-1 steel, BRKT makes Bushcrafter out of 3v, these are $200 knives though. For under $100 check out Esee-3, Rat-3.

Get the esee izula for him! perfect bushcraft knife with a shorter handle thats perfect for him, and not to mention he can learn a thing a two about using paracord for the handle. I think he would love to be able to use a handle color that he loves. the knife is on the smaller side for an older person but for a 10 year old i guarantee he will show it off to his friends!

i would start with a cheap mora, learn to sharpen and take care of a knife first, then on to the good stuff, have a lot of fun teaching your son

Scrapyard 311, rodent solution, fallkniven F1. I just got a 511 for my 10 yo stepson but we haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I have other smaller kids in the house though so I control all the knives. That gives him a lot less opportunity to lose it too

Think I have to add to the info, I will have his knife when we are not using it.

bussekin is out of the question, and Mora too. This because bussekin is to much money, and the Moras is Not full tang...

Keep the suggestions dimming, I am getting good ideas here...

I will second the condors and beckers, but the Condor wood scales come loose really easy. It only took me a few minutes to break mine loose on my viking machete. I was really impressed though with how the blade held up when I laid into a huge rock on accident.

I love the fiddlebacks but they cost more than the bussekin and nowhere near enough guard for kids imo on most models anyway.

Pendleton mini looks like it could be about right, only coserne would be the tang. Price is absolutely looseable lol.

But it's a cold steel, so I just don't know...

it is a heavy knife, that is thick for its intended purposes. needs some serious reprofiling to be sharp

cold steel X-tra Large Espada.
JUST KIDDING.
i know benchmade makes a fixed blade that isnt very big. sorry, because i forgot the name. i know u can find it though on thier site

Condor Mini Bushlore should fit the bill pretty nicely. Its under $30, 3in 1/8in thick semi scandi grind with a full length and full width tang.

You could even pick up the larger version for yourself so when you go out to practice bushcraft together, you could have the same blade :).
