When we geocache and it requires a pack and a hike I carry a Becker machax and a ruger blackhawk along with standard edc pocket knife.
When I'm getting firewood it's the blackhawk again plus a condor golok or aranyik enep or the 5lb multi.
Never had a problem carrying any of these for hours at a time and all of them are way bigger and heavier than a 4in knife. My thought is my edc pocket knife can do anything I need it to do with small stuff so why not carry something bigger for when I need it? And a big knife is leaps and bounds more useful for a multitude of tasks then a small hatchet
