Suggestions on how to spend my Xmas $$

Okay, so I've garnered about $400 bucks over the holiday and I'm looking to add something special to my pile. I could swing something up to around $450 if I really like it.

I am mostly a production folder guy. I have many Emerson productions, Strider SnG (current EDC), Spyderco, Burke etc and I'm okay on big Bussikin choppers as well. I don't wail on or abuse my knives either.

So really, I'm looking for something......else.

I am considering:

CRK Sebenza with some type of inlays. (Never owned a Sebbie)
CRK Umnumzaan (looks a little tougher than the Sebbie)
Fallkniven Tor (Big and beautiful but I would not use it as much as a folder)

I also looked at maybe saving a little more for a Hinderer or Yuna but I don't know if I really want to spend the extra coin.

I'm open to suggestions here. What am I missing? (besides the new 0550)

Thanks in advance for the input.

Your IRA is already maxed out for the year?

Just kidding. Get a custom knife.

CS Natchez Bowie [or Fallkniven Tor,as you said, truly a beautiful knife] If I was going to buy a Chris Reeve knife I'd get one of his fixed blades. Cheaper and much cooler than the oh so pedestrian Sebenzas.

You need to try the new HEST folder. Its gonna be a hot item.

If you can stand the wait get on Andrew Demkos list and get a Custom Tri-Ad Lock American Lawman! I have a few weeks left before I get mine but from what I understand it is worth the wait. If you dont want to wait then shop around for a Rick Hinderer XM 18! Good Luck! Kevin :D

Id spring for an Andrew Demko custom, they are right around that price range. I just got an Umnumzaan and it is awesome. You also moght want to look at the HTM DDR 2.0. It is a beautiful knife with a Ti lockbar.

The HEST looks good to me but that stupid looking bottle opener thingy on top ruins it for me.

Those Demko customs are nice. I'm digging on the DDR MAXX at the moment. Might be a little big to edc though.

Keep the suggestions coming!!!

I would go for an Strider SMF RW-1. Or search Google for:

Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx Folder. Assisted Opener, S30V Stainless Matte Finish Dagger Blade

or...

Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx Folder. Manual opening, S30V Stainless Dagger Blade

The Madd Maxx is one sweet folder. It is large in length, but thin enough to ride comfortably in your pocket.

Check out the Jim Burke mid-techs. Specifically the Flippin' Ballistic. Look here for a pic of what I'm speaking of.

Ray Laconico, here at BF, is making some very nice folders within your price range. Check the Makers section.

Last, but not least, check out John W Smith folders. He makes one of the best folders in the world today. Unlike a lot of makers, John's using knives have stayed low in price. You can pick up a F4, F5, SD-2, or an SD-3 (this is what I just gave myself for Christmas:D) for around $525. That is a real bargin in the custom folder market.

Check out Knifeart for the details.

Good luck!!

I just bought a Fallkniven TOR a few day ago and it should be here tomorrow. I am beyond excited! I truly think this is the most beautiful production bowie out there. I'll let you know if its worth the high cost when I get it and put some comparison shots up with my M9, Dogfather, and Junglas :) Gotta love choppers!

But I would lean towards getting 2 or possibly 3 less expensive knives. You could get something like a chopweiler or SOD or a Fallkniven A-1 and still have enough cash to buy a nice folder.

Just keep your eyes peeled on the exchange there have been some real steals lately.

Cutter - I actually picked up a Flippin Ballistic in trade from Coltrane811 a few months ago but the Smith F5 looks nice.

KalEl - Funny, I have a Chopwieler and an A1! Both are great knives. I will be looking for a review from you on the Tor.

large micarta sebenza
It's a pretty tough knife. Never has let me down when compared to the 2 Umnumzaans Iv'e had.

How do you like the Burke? Do you know what the blade thickness is?

A Smith knife just has to be held to feel the quality, and solidness found in it. John makes a lot of very high dollar art knives, and the same attention to detail go into his work knives. The SD-3 will not end up being the only Smith I have!

I really like it. Flips smooth almost like it has an internal bearing system. The spine appears to be about 1/8" without putting calipers on it. The only negative, if you want to call it that, is that it is hard to remove from the pocket. The clip is real tight. Other than that it's great. It's one of my collection I won't ever part with.

Can't go wrong with a Sebenza! But these guys have pages of cool blades in your price range that are worth looking through:

EDIT: Oops -- my bad. Link to KnifeArt PM'd to OP.
