Hello again,

I'm looking to purchase a knife that comes with a sheath to attach near my ankle under jeans or pants. I saw a Kershaw that looked pretty nice on their website, the Amphibian with Kydex sheath. I understand it's not neccesarily made for that purpose, but it's just one what I was looking at. I've been looking at a lot of the kershaw products, and I've already found some others of theirs that I want to get in the future, but the ankle knife is my next intended purchase.

So if any of you know anything about that particular knife, or have any suggestions, please let me know. The army navy store near me has some generic no name boot knives, but I'm not sure their sheaths would really work for this purpose, and I wouldn't mind purchasing a quality knife. The Amphibian is listed at about 54 on their website, nothing too crazy.

Anyways, I'm rambling. Just throw any thoughts and suggestions that any of you all have. Theyre greatly appreciated.

Not sure that this is what your looking for but Ka-bar sold a knife called the tdi that had some sort of ankle rig.

I once owned a Kershaw Amphibian and didn't think much of it. It was nicely made in terms of quality of fit and finish but the steel is not that great (420j I think) and the flat, double edge design is a poor choice for most day to day tasks. The ankle sheath is more suited to diving etc than concealment. Not sure what you want it for but I would not get another Amphibian.

There are a lot of Boot/ankle knives available and some neck knives have sheaths that are adaptable for leg carry. Kershaw makes some nice ones (I prefer the Trooper to the Amphibian), the KaBar TDI is a fairly flexible design and the wicked little CS UrbanDart is in a class of its own

IMO they'd be OK at a poker table but I have never found any that felt entirely secure or comfortable for strenuous terrestial activities when worn on calf or ankle. (In automobile terms it's sprung vs unsprung weight).

Dive knives strapped to the leg are awkward on land but much less a problem once you're in the water.

I went ahead and purchased the Ka-Bar TDI today. Found it for 51 at an army navy store in Brandon, Florida. I'm sure I could've gotten it for a lot less online or something, but I just prefer to buy things in the store usually.

The store didn't carry the ankle rig so I purchased some blousing straps for like 4 bucks instead. Not the best option I suppose, but I'm gonna see how it works out, if I don't like how it works out I'm gonna purchase the ankle rig online.

Overall, it was my first "real knife" purchase. It's defanitley a nice little knife, I got the serreated version just to give it some more application.

Thanks for all your help guys. I'll let you all know how i like it.

Kbar TDI Ankle knife is a great choice because you can attach ANY of the TDI series(Full sizedTanto, Full sized spear, serrated, small regular, ect.) to the same ankle holster the ankle model comes with.

I clip a Police in the inside of my Boot strong side. works great with all SS Spydercos. Also with slim all Ti framed knives,(Seb, BM Skirmish) Kershaw Leek is great for that kind of carry too.

Welcome to the wonderful world of knives. There are lots of different one, lots of ways to carry. You can spend a whole lot of pocket money on them, and after a while discover your preferences.

Along the way you also discover how those preferences interact with the public at large - and what the public has come to expect, right or wrong. Sometimes those expectations are even put into law, which gets increasingly annoying to those of us who are responsible owners and users, much less law enforcement officers who really do have better things to do. Unfortunately others sometimes insist they interfere with other people's activities - and they have to at least follow through on a complaint.

With power comes responsibility - know what you can and can't do in your locality. The use of an ankle holster is no real big deal, but an unaccustomed observer could mistake the use of one as a "dangerous concealed lethal weapon" and dial 911. The world is full of ignorant busybodies.

Most of my fixed blade carry was in uniform, and I found that most of the time, sheaths, ankle holsters, boot clips, neck carry, etc just didn't work for me. My access was severely restricted, very few leg sheaths of any kind were secure when actively working, and mostly, the clipped folder eventually resulted in being the easiest and simplest tool at hand.

I still have many of the smaller fixed blades, and enjoy them outdoors. They are useful in their setting, and don't regret what I learned from them. If I could just figure out a pocket clip carry system for the HAK, it would probably be my EDC box cutter. But don't let me suggest any other eye candy, or you'll discover just how addictive edge fever is . . .

CRKT Sting, as said before...it has more straps than a Alice pack.
Also Kershaw Military boot knife...

Get a knife that suits your needs and then have someone make a custom Kydex rig that also suits your needs.
