Suggestions requested for an elegant folder.

I would have to say the BM switchback. It might be a little over the length, but it is in your price range. I have one and the vibrant color makes it seem classy. I hope thombrogan backs me up on this. :p

Hey Morgoth412,

I was thinking about getting one but I did a search and read that the liner lock slipped a bit. Did that happen to yours?

Hey Manifest,

That never happened on mine. Then again I only got to use mine for 3 months or so. I think the eccentric pivot pin would be able to eliminate any lock slippage though.

One more vote for a William Henry. They sit at about 200 and are one of the best gentlemans knife that I can think of.

If you can wait a week or two, the market is going to get flooded with the new William Henry International Line, VG-10 blade steel, bolstered front lock with a variety of high-end scale materials. You can see one at plazacutery or knifeart at the moment. Discounter street price should right around $100. These knives are made by the Moki factory in Japan - they make just about the finest production front-locks on the planet.

Whoa!! Do you have any more info on this? I'm not finding anything on Knifeart.com.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for all of your replies. I have the BM 921 and you are correct, it is a classy knife. I like it very much, but the handle is a little slim and slick for my taste, but having two blades is certainly a plus. I have also looked at the BM 960 series, but the handle is not very comfortable for me. I am considering one of two knives, either the BM 690, which is almost exactly what I am looking for or a William Henry T-12 or the B-7 with the button lock. One more question in regards to the William Henry knives. Does anyone out there have either of the above models? If so, is the grip fairly thick and hand filling? This is one of the features I am looking for. I know that most gentlemen’s knives are slim and comfortable in the pocket, but I would like something more full. This is one of the features I like about the BM 690. If you have any measurements or thoughts, I would really like to hear them.

The WHs are usually very thin, and feel smaller than you would think from the measurements alone -- I tried several, and liked only the Icon.

Sorry for the mix up - you can find them right now at plazacutlery or nordicknives. Both good dealers, but they have them at MSRP.

The T-12's are not as big as the BM 690's, but they do fill the hand, more so than the B-7's. The WH buttonlocks were designed to be as thin as possible, and are constructed from a single titanium slab on either side, with milled relief for the finish materials. They are very, very lightweight for the blade size. All in all, the WH liner lock folders tend to have smoother pivot action and the detente releases more smoothly on opening and closing. The 690 has a larger and thicker blade, so I don't really consider it to be a "personal" or "gents" knife, its more of a big working knife, YMMV.

You might want to consider a new version of the WH buttonlock - it is the "Quest", a clip-point blade set onto what appears to be a Westcliff frame. The blade is longer but I am not certain about the steel thickness.

I don't know how big it is but a spyderco persian looks like it would fit all the other criteria :D

Other than being a little heavy, it fits pretty well. I love my persian.

The Kershaw leek could work.

The BM 690 has a very substantial blade for a knife of its size. This is not to say that it too thick, but I was expecting the blade to be much thinner.--Thus the knife, while being very pretty, is one that you would not hesitate to use for "dirty" work.

How about the Spyderco Herbst? I'm not sure if you can still get it off their site for $50 or not anymore though.

How about the Benchmade Apparition. Stainless steel bolsters, "Kudu" handle (Did I spell that right?), 154CM in a satin finish, and to top it off, assisted opening(optimizer). All this for a knife that should retail at about $100. :)

I forgot about that one, yea that looks like one hell of a nice knife.
