I have several Emersons, the smallest of which is a CQC7. I did just pick up a CRK small Sebenza 21 which is on its way to me.

I wear dress slacks which just aren’t conducive to any bulk, but certainly not to weight.

So, I need something that is super light weight and preferably thin. I know I want a clip as well. Who knows, the 21 may fill my needs.

Thanks in advance for your time, thoughts, and recommendations.

What about the crkt ripple 2? Though a small 21 should be light enough.

I think the small 21 will work for you. I have a small regular, and I find it to be a slim, light knife, relatively speaking. The small 21 weighs 3 oz. according to the CRK website.

The Mnandi is lighter still--1.5 oz. It's kind of the quintessential gentleman's knife.

I recently acquired a Boker Subcom Titan (ti framelock) for office carry. It's not CRK quality, but it's well-made. 2.3 oz. Can be purchased for around $30.

Spyderco Caly 3, or 3.5 with a wire clip is very thin, light, and discreet. Clip is almost invisible and it rides very low in your pocket. I have a carbon fiber Caly 3 that I wear with suit pants all the time & I have never seen anyone notice a thing.

Whenever Im in my suit i either carry a large sebenza or a spyderco terzuola slipit. Both are great cause the handle material doesn't shred your pockets and their pretty light. the Terzoula more than the Sebenza because of the carbon fiber vs the titanium. All in all, I think that the small sebenza will work perfectly.

Have you thought about a CRK Mnandi? It's half the weight of a small Seb (1.5oz), is a full four finger knife yet is small, and has a pen-like pocket clip.

I use a Benchmade 530 for those times when I want a slim, light, discreet knife in my pocket. It weighs 1.88 oz. and still has a 3.25" blade.

Here are some comparison pics with my Para 2 and Emerson. (530 is in the middle).

And another size comparison. (530 on top).

I think your best option would be an Al Mar Ultralight. I have a Falcon, and it's the thinnest and lightest knife I've seen. Plus, the handles are smooth micarta, so they won't rip up your pants.

I agree with the earlier suggestion of one of the wire clip Spydies. In addition to the Caly 3 and 3.5, the Sage 1 or Sage 2 would be excellent choices. Their handle materials (carbon fiber for the Sage 1, titanium for the Sage 2) also give them a bit of a classier look than the G-10 of the Caly 3.5.

How about a Spyderco Ambitious - small, sharp. I have one - and wear suit pants all the time - I'll have to give it a go as well.

I to just got a small Sebenza, and carry it every day. I removed the clip, and carry it in CRK's calfskin pocket sheath. Feels good in the pocket, and protects a little more since I'm still anal about scratches. But, the knife I am saving for that really fits for dress EDC is this:

Try waistband carry. I find that it's fairly comfortable and discreet at the 4 o'clock position. If you wear a belt with your slacks, the belt will help make shiny metal clips a little more subtle. Park your cell phone in front of the clip and no one will even notice. But if waistband carry isn't your thing, you could try a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 or maybe a Kershaw Chill. The Al Mar Ultralights look very promising, as already suggested (I don't own one... yet) and of course the Spyderco wire-clips are simply fantastic.

Good luck!

I'll have to second the Al Mar suggestion.

The Ultralight series is awesome, especially when your going light.

I suggest a Mnandi or a Benchmade 530 but maybe the REI version, it's quite nice with S30v steel and darkish blue handles.

Yup.

Mnandi will also go incognito in the shirt breast pocket...looks like a pen...

spyderco UKPK, great and light dress knife. To me the key to having knives in suit pants is to have a deep carry pocket clip on a lightweight knife. Went to a banquet on Saturday and saw way too many people with heavy Kershaws sticking out of their pocket and sagging their pocket down. G-10 handles also wore down the material.

as everyone else said, lightweight and small are pretty key. I personally use a Small Sebenza 21 with the clip removed and dropped in the calfskin pouch.

I gotta bump the Benchmade 530. I love this little guy. So slim and light. But sturdy and quite capable. It's in my EDC rotation and I just love it.
