Suitable anvil?

Friend of mine found this for me. If I ground it flat would it play the part?image.jpg the picture is dark. It's a piece of rairoad track.
 
Probably, how big is it? Mount it to something really heavy and you'll probably be good. That being said, I am a complete amateur, and I really am just parroting what I have heard/read on this forum and others...
 
Seeing as how I'm not even an amatuer yet, it should play the part, right Jason? I'm still in the design process of my forge. Been working 70 hours a week so haven't had much time to put my thoughts to practice yet. Definitely something I want to do thoigh
 
If you are just using it for knives you may think about standing it on end. Cut away a small portion of the foot so that you have the top rail portion sticking up. This doesnt give you much striking surface but it puts all the main metal right under the face. Kind of like in india and other places where they use a sledge hammer head but taller with more mass.
