I think we will call this one the "Blue Creek Kwaiken". Named after the place my wife and I stay at when we visit Creede, CO. I have never made a handle quite like this one, where the tang is exposed proud around the handle material. I was a bit surprised how comfortable it actually is. The tang around the handle has been rounded. There is fine jimping on the spine, and more coarse jimping on the bottom. The steel is Crucible's D-2 tool steel, heat treat done in house using the DELTA heat treat protocol. This includes a prequench for grain refinement, "cryo" quench, and triple low temp tempers. Hardness is 62.5HRC. In the right light, you can make out the carbide banding within the steel. The full flat grind terminates in very thin edge geometry for excellent slicing performance. The handle is black canvas micarta with red g10 liners. The sharpening was done with resin bonded diamond stones up to 3000 grit, polished on a Shapton pro 5000, and then stropped on CrOx leather. She be sharp! You can literally slice fingerprint ridges off of your finger! I got a little carried away last night and had to drag out the bandaid box. It feels really great in the hand, fun to wield around and play with! There definintely will be more of these coming from the shop. If you're interested in one and miss out here, just send me a DM or email and we can make one together (samuraistuart@yahoo.com). Every house needs a small kwaiken. Great blade shape and size.

This one has been up for a while so I've lowered the price a bit and hopefully it will move. My wife doesn't want it to, as she has had her eye on it since I let her cut up venison steaks with it the other day. Blade steel is 1/16" AEB-L with the heat treatment done in house with "cryo" and triple tempers for a final hardness of 63HRC, where AEB-L really shines as a cutlery steel. Hand rubbed satin blade finish. Claro walnut handle. Balance point is dead on, right between the handle and my maker's mark. As with the steels in the AEB-L category, this thing is just wicked sharp! I have had a lot of questions about heel height. It is 1.5". This is a slicing knife, not a chef's knife.
OAL: 13 1/2"
Blade: 9"
Handle: 4 1/2" Claro Walnut
Thickness: 0.063" taper to tip
Steel: AEB-L 63HRC
Edge: 13° per side, 3 micron Shapton pro 5000
Price: Now only SOLD

Paypall preferred (samuraistuart@yahoo.com). All knives come with free shipping in the USA as well as a lifetime unconditional warranty. Something goes wrong, the knife gets repaired or replaced. I ask that the buyer be aware that most all of my knives are cutting tools and are made only for their intended use. I like to make thin, hard knives that excel at cutting and not necessarily able to take abuse. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me here or contact me by email (samuraistuart@yahoo.com).
