i know this sounds weird in january but please bear with me . whats a good, durable, comfortable boot that drains water well. here in the south east it gets like a steamy , humid jungle during the summer and im out in the woods more often then not during that time . i just need something thatll hold up well , not hold water and dry fairly quik but can death march under a heavy pack without killing my feet. thanks in advance.

thanks akabu. wich ones would you recomend? i like the prices on all of them but i wish there was a place i could try them on .

I hike in the wet, wet parks of Florida. Almost all year long I wear sandals. That's it. Bare feet and sandals. It really is ideal for this location, despite being a little unconventional.

I'm into lightweight backpacking, so ankle support isn't an issue. I guess I'm more vulnerable to fire ants and snakebite, but so far no problems.

I carry spare socks to wear at night when it gets cold.

Teva Hurricanes work well for me.

For heavy duty sandal type shoes, I've had great luck with Keen Boulders. My last trip to Mexico, I wore them everywhere; right into the water without a second thought and they would dry out extremely quickly after getting out. They are the ultimate summer shoe for me.

I'm also contemplating picking up a pair of this waterproof, lightweight hiker, also by Keen: http://www.keenfootwear.com/men/targhee.html

These are tough, well built shoes. Check out all of the reviews on http://www.zappos.com/welcome.zhtml?0117

i usaully wear chacos[im a raft guide] but im tired of tearing my feet up when out in the nastiness during the summer . i like exploring small slot canyons or "hollers" around my area and some times it requires lots of rappeling , crawling , climbing and bushwacking. i think im leaning more towards a jungle boot for my "excursions" this summer. i never thought i would cause theyre ugly and unconfortable looking but i may just give them a try.any other suggestions / alternatives are welcome .

If you are traveling light, I'd go with one of the shoes made for adventure racing. Since they fit feet differently, you might have to google them to see what ones would be best suited to your foot shape/width. I have had very good luck with Salomon XA Pros for races up to 350KMs with no blisters. They let the water out very well, are light weight, and still provide some support and protection. The shape of the sole also helps prevent ankle roll over. Good luck.

The Chigger's love you for a great meal  I've used JB for a long long time {1965} The Panama sole is a great improvment over the sierra sole in mud not so good on mossy or seaweed covered rock's,but what is? Anyway pick the sole pattern and go for Cordura upper's. Get some ULTIMAX sock's used them from Alaska to China warm and dries quick. PS: I'd get the Altama's ,proven record at least with me.

sound's like you need Jungle Boot's : http://www.altama.com/ i can recommend them highly:D

Anyone you choose except the ripples, you can get regular jungle boots resoled with ripple soles and you foot is much closer to the ground. I bought a set of new altamas with ripples and I don’t wear them because my foot is pretty high off the ground and they want to role on the rocks pretty bad. Other thing I discovered is that ripple tracks are the easiest tracks to follow I have ever seen. Ripple tracks will last for over a week in some cases, I wont get another set for that reason.

I looked at those sites, but I am kind of biased I had the same pair of jungles as my field boots for 4 years and they were unbeatable. I am sure there is better stuff out but for the price and how long they last, jungles are hard to beat in a wet environment. Only thing I would recommend is some good insoles. Only other boots I would recommend are Scarpas and they will work where you’re at but don’t dry fast.

Yep!:D Just breaking in pair of the Altama desert boot's Ooooh thier so comfy :) My Danner's are upset:D

I've got some altama jungles (picked them up from the flea market for $12 new!!!) and some keens http://www.keenfootwear.com/men/newporth2.html
the keen's get crap in them all the time, when I'm out in the woods and in the water, but it is tolerable. I really like how easily they slip on. I wouldn't wear them in my swamp though.

I wear Keens almost exclusively in the warmer months. My wife and I did a fairly intense hike up to a nice fishing lake in alpine country this summer and wore only keens through all sorts of conditions, from fast moving thunderstorms with high winds, rocky steep terrain, freezing rain at the higher altitudes, and fairly intense heat at lower ones. These sandals are amazing. I've done some of the most challenging hiking of my life in these things and they've outperformed my boots by a long shot....

Hey Guys...

Ohhh Ya....

Keens Baby !!

I was a convert to them last summer,, and I'll tell you,, still the most comfortable sandal/shoe I've warn..
What's nice about them is the toe protection..Can't tell you how many times I stubbed my toe in other sandals..Thing of the past with Keens...

As a matter of fact,, it's Jan/06 and I'm still wearing them, with a pair or two of wool socks..(don't wear them with white socks or your kids will call you a dork in front of their friends, Trust me I know)

In the snow they are a pain in the a$$,, but even in the cold, as long as you have decent socks and don't have to trek far,, they are Awesome..

Ok,,so who else wears their Keens in the Cold, All Year Long!!
Come On.. I know you do!!

Meaner than the adders bite is the scorn of your own kids :D

Black sock's Eric:) Question has any one tried swimming with the Keen's.Last year on a trip to NW Florida I saw what appear's to be a knock off of the keen's at Wal-Mart looked at them and said bye bye ,will have to check them out.

Keen foot wear!!!
I have 8 pairs in various models. Most comfortable shoes I've worn. The Newport is being discontinued and replaced with a model having fewer straps. Looks like it will better shed the sand and little pebbles that sometimes get into the sandals.
