No, not white linen pants. I need some pants that are going to be as tough as blue jeans, but not as hot in the summer. I thought about some plain drab BDUs, but every pair of BDUs I've had tore pretty easily. I remember my Boy Scout pants being tough as nails, but they were also like wearing burlap.

It sounds kind of funny, but I bought some clearance tan dress pants at a Ross store for $5. They are a poly blend so they are thin and light and breathe well. they make great hiking pants.

i wear carharts pretty much all year around... other than that, i really like REI's hiking pants....

did the BDU's that you were wearing have ripstop?

I wear the walmart brand about 8 bucks a pair. Last as long as a pair of Levis but a little lighter

I have some Beghaus pants made of Cordura and they are pretty bombproof and have long zip openings down the sides for when the weather gets real hot but they are'nt as cheap as others people are mentioning here.

I was thinking this yesterday while I was hiking as well. I'm so used to wearing my jeans, doing anything else seems weird. I have some convertible pants from REI that I got on clearance that are nice, but I can't load them down like I do my jeans. But in the woods I always have a pack. They breath well, dry fast, and shed water fairly well. These in combination with Ex-Officio underwear, they work just as good as swimming trunks when you zip off the legs. Bush experience has shown them to be quiet durable too.

LOL I don't know if I can bring myself to buy a $25 pair of drawers.

That's the fabric where you can sort of see the quadrill pattern of construction?

I've had a pair of these BDU's for years and they're been very hardwearing as well as being cool in the summer. I have a few other pairs of lighter summer pants I wear, Craghoppers and a pair of Columbia, Fjallraven, and a few more. I've also found some of the cheap fashion combats pretty good, and I used to like Troll Omnis (as well as Ron Hill Tracksters, but I'm too old for those now!) Also had some good one from Lowe Alpine and The North Face do some great cargo pants, though they're a bit pricey.

Check out old navy. They have some lightweight cargos that are really well made. I got some last weekend that were on clearance for like 7 bucks.
