So now that I have a full time job this summer (along with practice twice a day) I've decided to put the actual attempting/failing to make money part of my knifemaking on hold once I finish up the few projects I have left. Having only weekends and whatever time I have left after practice at 8:00 I've instead decided to work on one big project for myself this summer. But being as ambitious as I usually am it of course turned into two... sorta. So here it(they) is(are):
Two matching sub-hilt fighters (I know, ambitious huh ;P). Both will be full tang measuring out at 12-3/4" OAL with 7" Blades.
The top will be 1/4" CPM S30v or M4 with NS guards and 1/4" tubing. Scales will be mammoth ivory (I have a very nice light colored piece that should be perfect) and black/white carbon fiber. Hollow grind, false edge, and flat grind on the end.
The bottom I have not 100% decided on a steel for yet but was hoping to use a nice O1/L6 damascus although I will have to contract that piece out since I don't forge well or forge weld at all. We will see I suppose (and since I'm dropping such a chunk of change for the first piece I'll probably end up cheaping out by the time I get around to ordering this one). Ti guards (bronze) and NS tubing for pins. Handle scales will be Black CF (between guards and top) and a red/black CF and Kevlar hybrid (bottom). Scandi grind all around on this one. Add a really aggressive sawtooth spine and this should be pretty beastly (if I don't cock it up).
I might be a little bit overzealous with my time here but at least I don't have to worry about the picky customer ;P
Comments and criticisms welcome
PS sorry the picture isn't so good but it was taken on my iPhone and the paper wouldn't lie flat.
