So, every once in a while I make a knife specifically as a youth sized model.About half the time, my son ends up with it (my daughter is only 2, she'll get hers.)

This one is going up for sale. The handle is big enough to grow into, my son is almost 6 and finds it comfortable and it still works for some of the adult females in the house. I find it a bit tiny, but no worse than a smaller trout knife- and hey, it's for a child!

(Of course, in keeping with the fancy new federal laws regarding lead testing, and not being able to afford lead testing on maple handle scales (duh!), this is obviously intended for someone over the age of 12, right?)

OAL is a spare 8 inches, with a blade length of about 3 7/8. It has a nice convex grind on .095 15N20 steel. Differential temper and the color lines are still visible on the buffed forge finish. Tang and spine are blued to match the finish on the flats.

Handle is tiger maple with a tung oil soak and finish. Brass pins and lanyard tube.

Sheath is the traditional double needle, hand stitched, 7 ounce leather deep pouch. Done in a simple belt loop with a single horizontal strap, you could still rig a piggyback SAK or firesteel if you wanted. Sheathwork by Koyote Girl, of course.

When I was 10, I had a little old Western with not too much different a blade - but the handle was waaaay too small, even for a kid. So this here is my answer (and the steel is better, too!)

I know it's tough to spend a ton of money on something a kid is going to beat to death and drop in a river at some point- Sale is Pending! so I'm asking $85 including shipping if it gets a youth out into the woods and I get a photo or something (meaning, special price if it goes to a kid). Otherwise $110, shipping included. :D paypal, money order, check all good.

Oh yeah- the 'hawk in the photos isn't for sale. It's a custom job from KR Johnson here on the forums done for my son. Purty cool, huh?

I will take it for my son who is 11 and is just starting to hunt. I remember carrying a knife bigger then me in those days and it was ok. Thanks for the generous offer and a picture you shall receive. He loves geocaching which is as close to hunting as I can imagine.

Awesome! (And the whole family does geocaching over here, too.)

Shoot me an email and We'll work out details.

thanks!
Christof
