i was wondering if there is anything i can do with it. i keep finding bleached and cracked antler at the antique mall. is it any good? there is no brown on it. its all a gray to white color. and alot of the good ones have cracks. is it worth getting even if its for <$10?

I wouldn't say they are all junk. I get antlers all the time that have been bleached out and cracked. Some are junk and some have turned out great. A light sanding will usually let you know. Small cracks can be filled with super glue and polished antler can look good too.I sell quite a few that way.Try it ,you may find some really nice pieces. Dave:)

Here's a piece that was salvaged,

Yeah, DC's right. Some are salvageable and some are not worth the bother. Depends on how bad you need some antler. I just have a bunch of good stuff, so it's easy to reject peices that need a lot of time spent on them.:o

Free stuff, that at least has possibilities, is never a bad thing:D I have to agree, though, that I'd be leery about actually paying for old antler. A good source to reasonable-to-cheap price antler, if you're looking for one, is Moscow Hide and Fur. I buy from them, and their prices are always good - service is excellent, too. By the way DC - nice folder:thumbup:

they are the ones who i just ordered some pieces from. great prices.

Did a couple customs for a friends 2 sons.
Decided to tape one end off and fill with wood hardener to firm them up.
It ran right out the sides. Did seal them up . Finished with super glue no sanding just 4-5 light coats. Looked good. Friend was happy.
Take Care
