Ok in response to Robarosa's beautious pics, I will post. There is a story behind this though 1st.
A good friend of mine noticed me playing with my 296 tempest(154cm) at a camp planning meeting when I should have been paying attention. He is a member of local search and rescue as well as the civil air patrol. In general, he is one of the nicest guys and best Christian fellow I've ever met. He was really taken by the design and action of the Tempst. A couple weeks later we were at church camp putting up his 20ft authentic teepee and the subject came back up and that he was in need of a lightweight 1 handed opener. We spoke of the many things of God, and as I listened to hear his wisdom, I was moved to make my new tempest a gift to him. Even though I am knife greedy and I loved that knife, I felt very at ease and satified to give it to him and did so gladly. I had been fortunate enough to recieve a similar but dressed up model from Dave earlier in the year and figgered, 1 act of generosity deserved another. A cool part of the story(or should I say another cool part) is that a day later, I missed that knife and looked on the bay to see what it would take to replace it if ever I felt the need to have one as a user(Daves was too nice to tear up) I found one immediately that was under $12 with less than an hour in the auction. I bid and ended it up winning it cheap. I guess the point is, if you dont hold on too tightly and are generous with what you have been blessed with, chances are you will be blessed more:thumbup::)

Here it is in action, inspired by Robarosa

Easy,

Just print the pic, add some salt, pepper and Tony Chachere's with a little smoke flavoring. Pour a glass of something and add a touch of Mother's milk, eilixer of life and nectar of the gods and you may have something similar to Straub Beer to wash it down with.:D:thumbup:

To robarosa
Very good photo. Is it a pork meat? Isn't it?

You can see below a perch , the perch is cousin of your bass.

Going to kill two birds with one post here.

Imafritz, in another post, was asking about 116s and their approximate period of manufacture.

Here is a pair of early 116s. One a BUCK 116 (1963-1966) and the other a BUCK* 116 (1967).

It is interesting to note that even between the two knives there are significant changes.

Note that the earlier BUCK does not have a bevel at the top of the tip whereas the BUCK* and all later 116s have that bevel.

Secondly, the earlier BUCK blade is .083 in thickness and the BUCK* is much beefier, micing in at .116.

Note also, that the blade grind is different. I can only wonder if the BUCK 116 is a reprofiled 102.

I do not have the fabled barrel nut 116.

So here is both a reply to Imafritz and my SPS pics for this week.

Telechronos:):):)

Tele, those are butes, Larry Odens article indicateds it is mostly a modified 118. quote

In late 1962 or early 1963, the model
116 Caper was added to the Buck lineup.
In a Buck brochure with the
Congress Street address, it is stated that
the 116 “design was suggested by Les
Bowman, famous guide and outfitter of
Cody, Wyoming.” Chuck Buck has
told me that it is his recollection that
Les contacted Buck with the suggestion
and that Les had even ground down a
Buck model 118 to provide an example
of what he was requesting. Les had
used Buck knives, was very pleased
with their performance and felt that his
“customized” blade was just what he
needed to cape a trophy animal. Chuck
said that the earliest Buck 116s also
incorporated model 118 blades (often
with broken tips!) and that they were
likewise ground down to Les
Bowman’s specifications

I'd love to get one of those Barrel nuts:thumbup: Happy hunting:)

Same SEAL style knife( but # 2) in above post.. along with a First generation 12 Inch bladed SEAL Team 6 Knife(100% PHROBIS made)... Look how small it is compared to this monster. Bear in mind that the SEAL #1 through 6 are the same size a normal production 184's.

Rich, boy that's a big guy you got there... How many did they make like that one??? All these 184s, I  can't wait for the book... Great pics like always and the 184s are sick... Thanks for sharing... ITE

IMA:

I suffered a senior moment when I said 102. I knew and know that the 102 handle is much smaller than the 116. And just to verify your quote, I have laid a BUCK 116 on top of a 118 and you can see that the 118 can be ground down to the size and shape of the 116. There is one difference which I did not photograph and that is the fact that the guard on the 116 is both wider and longer than the 118. If it were the other way, it would make sense. I can rationalize it by saying that, since those early knives were essentially hand made, the difference can be explained by a simple variation in grinding.

Here are the 116 on top of the 118.
