It was wet and chilly here on Sunday, but I went for a walk at a little nature preserve near my house anyway. Here's a few pics:

Even with as wet as it was there was still dry bark and dry leaves under these fallen trees:

And there are tons more fallen trees all over the place where I was. It'd probably be pretty easy to rig up a shelter and get a fire going there, even in wet conditions.

I don't know what kind of tree this is, but they're are quite a few of them in this nature preserve:

Looks like a pretty mean tree huh?

And here's the blade I took with me, my HI Baby BAS:

All of my wider shots came out too dark so that's it. Maybe I can get some better pics next weekend.

I don't care what kind of tree that is! I wouldn't want to lean up against that in the dark. OUCH!! Nice pics!!!!

Damn. Thats a mother of a tree huh? Nice shots. Love seeing the khuk. Now get that handle in some mineral oil.

I don't remember seeing spines on locust tree trunks here but they can have them and certainly have them on the branches.. The legume family has some interesting trees ,locust, mequite, acacia, coffee tree, koa, all with seeds in a pod. Good hardwoods for furniture ,knife handles etc.

I've never seen the spines on the trunks of Black Locust robinia pseudoacacia(sp?) but only on the trunks of Honey Locust gledistia tricanthos(sp?)

Thanks for the ID on that tree guys.

The weather report is predicting more rain and possibly sleet this weekend, so I probably won't get any pics better than the ones I took last weekend. I'm still planning on heading out for a walk though. Bad weather just means I'll have the trails to myself again.

Fiddleback, I've been meaning to do a search and see what I needed to do to care for that horn handle (it's the first horn handled knife I've owned) but I kept on forgetting. I'll take your advice and get some mineral oil. Thanks!
