Sunfish/Whaler --- Lets See What You Got

That’s the truth, incredibly strong pull on these. Not sure if these will ever be rereleased and this may not be a popular opinion, but I would like to see them made a little more user friendly if they were.
Try a Rough Rider or Marbles large Sunfish. They may not be "worth" the $350 ~ $550 + I see the Case and GEC's I've seen are going for.
(To me, that is a major advantage. I can afford under $20 a lot more than I can $350 plus. I'd be afraid to carry a knife that cost $150, let alone $350 or more.)
However, the 3 I have (see post #1) all have a reasonable "5" pull on both blades.

Forget the small ones.
The Rough Rider Elephant Toenail (3 inch closed Sunfish) I had, had a reasonable "5" pull on the main blade, and I'll guess around a "15" on the secondary.
The primary HAD to be opened, and pliers were required to open the pen blade. No amount of cleaning and flushing helped. I traded it at a pawnshop for a medium "Made in USA" no name Stockman with outgassing celluloid covers, and a small leather cellphone case.
I've never tried another small sunfish. I've heard they are all like that. I'd rather spend my limited funds on things I can use, not just look at. :)

I forgot to mention I do have one of the Rough Ryder large elephant toes in smooth white bone. Was fiddling with it after I made my post. Definitely a more user friendly pull. Fit and finish leaves a bit to be desired, but at sub 20 bucks it hard to find to much fault.

I have two, with strong pulls. But the tall blade makes them pinchable.

The cam tang makes them easy to open one handed, even with the strong pulls.

Check out the Buffalo tooth sunfish by Finch. I love that it’s a flipper so super easy to open, plus it feels less chunky than either the AGR sunfish or the GEC Whaler, due to the titanium bolsters.
That is a neat knife, but it should be noted that it is most definitely not a Traditional. It runs afoul of pretty much all the subforum guidelines.

I suppose since it comes with a nail nick, it could be viewed as traditional as well

If you require help finding a reference on the guidelines, you can find it here https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...tional-folders-fixed-blades-sub-forum.530532/

I'm not a Mod, I'm not going to list all the ways that the knife you are talking about violates the guidelines. I'm not debating you on how you feel about the knife. I am just trying to give you a friendly heads up.

ETA: I'm not anti-modern knife, that is the lion's share of my own collection. The Buffalo Tooth would be a good pairing with a Traditional Sunfish in the Traditional and Modern Pairing thread, but the rules are relaxed a little in that thread vs. the rest of the subforum.

Sorry. I thought people in this thread (fans of sunfish and whalers, like myself) would appreciate this modern take on a sunfish. Never mind.

I saw a case 6250 for sale on another site with the elephant etching but seller was insisting it was made around ‘65-‘69. Correct me if I’m wrong but the elephant etching didn’t start until mid ‘70s right?
