Sunfish?

[/IMG] I really like the GEC Sunfish. Not sure it would be ideal to gut a sunfish, but it's pretty good for spreading peanut butter. :)

And here's a comparison shot, a #36 Sunfish on the left, then a Whaler and Lumberjack. The sunfish is definitely the most pocket-friendly, but I like all of them...

I had a chance a while back for a beautiful GEC Whaler at a great price. I still kick myself for not jumping on it. It was a solid monster.

They certainly are monsters. I bought my GEC #36 Sunfish when I was trying to find a bigger traditional to carry as an EDC. Tried the Ben Hogan. Tried #23 and settled on the #42 as MY knife. Now, I'm starting to think small....

Add my vote to the RR Sunfish, I was gifted one and it's a great work knife, stout and sharp outta the box.

What do they call it? Or is it no longer current?

It was (?) one of AG Russell's annual Texas Ranger knives (year 2010).These knives are limited edition so they are sold out by now.

AG did make a annual Texas Ranger with this pattern, but mine isn't one of them. AG runs regular patterns of his Texas Ranger series after the annual knife's year has concluded. I prefer the unmarked post annual runs of his Texas Ranger series. All that said this is his "Sunfish" model, and I don't see it on his page for sale any longer. There may be some on the secondary market.

Here is my only sunfish. Tuna Valley with 3 blade whittler style, with burnt stag. It isn't comfortable to carry around, and kinda heavy. So it sits around in the safe most of the time. But I like it too much to ever let it go. TV is probably not classified as a low cost knife, however. I agree with others, start with a Rough Rider, and progress from there.

One of my last knife purchases was a second Rough Rider "smooth tobacco bone" large sunfish, from a truck stop.

I've had this a few years, like it a lot just because it's so different.
Fit & finish very good for how much it costs. It's heavy!
