hi! i am new to this site but not to knives. i have a wonderful sweet mother who is ordering me a entrek badger fo a birthday present. (sweet huh?) my question is where can i find a similar knife (made in the u.s.a either 440c or aus8a steel) that is a tactical folder for around $100? it seems like everything i see has either a bone or stag or wooden handle. i am looking for a linen micarta, glass filled nylon, or a g10 grip on the folder. any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks alot!!

Does it HAVE to be 440c or AUS8??? You can find much better steels in that price range in a tactical folder made in the states.

Paramilitary 2 is made in Golden Colorado with USA-made S30V particle metallurgy steel and has a 3.5" blade, G10 handles, excellent lock, all for about $100 online at a number of reputable dealers. Most here would consider this to be a superior steel for a folder as compared with AUS8 or 440C. It is a great knife, my go-to working knife.

Check out the Spyderco Manix 2. It has a 154CM steel blade, which is fantastic,, G-10 handle, USA made and it's a tough knife. 154CM is my favorite stainless steel with 440C second and I find 154CM to be an upgrade to 440C. I carry the Manix 2 with my Entrek Companion because both knives are tanks.

Paramilitary 2, ZT0350, and Buck Vantage Force Pro would be 3 suggestions. I have all of these and they are great knives. All have s30v steel. The Manix 2 would be another option.

If you are worried about toughness, I'd suggest a Manix 2 over a Paramilitary 2. The tip should hold up better.

ALL kinds of options. Ka-Bar phat bob is one of the few that has a Micarta handle and AUS8 blade at that price point. But there are many many good options in your price range. If all you're seeing is wood/stag etc, I kinda doubt you've done much in the way of googling, since most online knife stores have a great selection of blades.

my brother refuses to rock cl1mb with out his spyderco so i may go that route. i did a fair amount of googling, but it's almost impossible in alot of cases to find one stamped "made in usa" and know it's made from u.s. steel and not assembled in the u.s. but made in china. but i have a good start. thanks alot and stay sharp!!

It shouldn't be. Spyderco is pretty well known for putting highly visible stamps of origin on their knives.

Both Manix2 and paramilirtary2 made in Golden, Colorado and stamped. Along with several other models:Military, Natives, UKPK, P'Kal, Leaf Storm and few autos.
My first choice would be Native5 with paramilitary2 being second.

Spyderco Manix2.

Manix 2 is a good bet. You might consider shelling out a bit more and getting a sprint run like the Stag Arms one with better steel and FFG. The standard one is great, don't get me wrong. But I love me FFG S30V...

Benchmade Griptilian, Benchmade Bone Collector, Benchmade 710, Benchmade Presidio.
All US made all have steel eual to or better than 440C and definitely better than Aus8, all can be had for around $100 give or take, all well made and kinda "tactical".

I will secong the Spyderco offerings listed above and include the Endura 4 or Delica 4, both can be had well below your budget and are amazing knives, high quality, very tough, cut well, and the VG-10 is my favorite knife steel. Only thing is the Delica and Endura models are made in Japan. The Spyderco Native is similar and is made in Golden Colorado, USA, Earth.
