I think I may be getting closer to my personal "Excaliber" with this one. I was doodling on a pad at work while the machines were running and came up with this concept for a medium to large camp knife. Did some sketching in full size and made some mods and got it onto steel this weekend It is large enough to get camp built up and supplied with firewood and yet still small enough to not drag you down on the trail. Here it is at 14 1/8in overall with an 8 5/8 blade. I made it from 1/4in thick 5160. The handle material is a CIP custom laminate material that is similar to micarta in construction but uses a nylon base. It is tough stuff and finishes out with a rough texture similar to sandblasted canvas micarta. I used flared stainless tubes(and epoxy) for securing the handle slabs. I installed foward and rearward lanyard holes. There is a slight recurve to the edge and then a LOT of belly for slicing and chopping. The handle shape is reminiscent of my Jungle Knife pattern handle. I like the large knob on the end as it keeps the blade in your hand without inducing pinky shock when chopping. I can't wait till the next camp trip so I can get it a little dirty!
